TV about 2 years old. Purchased from another no warranty. Working fine one day the next day turned it on...power light blinks...burning electrical smell... but no sound or picture. Tried all the suggestions in the manual. HELP!
Model hd52w55 --It has no picture or sound. It just failed to have a picture or sound one day.You can hear it come on with remote or front power button. The light on the front blinks about three or four times then stays on.You can rasie or lower the volume and hear a thumping sound response from speakers. With the back panel off you can see a green light and the fan running on the side board where what looks like a hard drive is.I'm able to replace parts on electronics and pretty well know the safty procedures to follow.Any help on where to start.ThanksModel hd52w55 --It has no picture or sound. Re:
Im sorry to tell ya pal, this set is famous for the Flyback transformer to go bad, and alot of these are not available anymore. I would check first with a local RCA shop. Then I would contact Thompson Corp in Canada to see if they can assist you as a two year old set should still have parts available. Good Luck

Read comment by techman.
On such a large set it must be devastating.
My advice to everybody buying second hand goods of any type is to look inside if possible before you plug it in to the mains.
Check for bodge-ups and missing screws and things taped due to damage and bad soldering.
Also there may be incorrect components which will work but are overstressed.
Make sure the inside is clean so that you can see everything.
With great care and not coming close, and if everything is held in place, you may switch the set on with the back off to observe if anything is actually overheating. Do not poke anything unless you know what it is (using a long piece of dowel rod).

As a preliminary step, try unplugging the power cable and then push the
power button continuously for 10 seconds (this should drain the flea
power from the capacitors inside your monitor). Now plug the power cable back and turn on the TV to check.
This can happen when the back light / the back light circuitry is not working which actually lights the LCD panel in the monitor. Please check for the warranty for this product if so immediately contact RCA tech support. If the monitor is out of warranty then its time you approached a local TV / Monitor repair technician.
the Majority of problems on this and all other LCD TV's are capacitor problems the power pack needs smooth power to work correctly however the warranty should be valid and you need the proof that you bought it and you need to know who to contact about the 2 year warranty it may be Emerson you need to speak with not Walmart. I would contact them next(Emerson), or whom ever the third party repair service is that will cover the Warranty. hope this helps
Thanks for all your input. mmondayr
