Re: I need to replace the internal battery on a zojirushi...
- Lift lid to 45 degrees and remove.
- Undo two screws on top of the bread machine at the front.
- Using a thin knife blade pop the front display panel off the machine.
- Undo four screws in the back of the display panel.
- Pull back the plastic latch at the top of the display panel and release the printed circuit board (PCB).
- If possible, disconnect the PCB connector so that the board can be completely removed. This is sometimes difficult to do and risks damaging the connector wiring and/or PCB. If it doesn’t easily separate, leave it attached for the next step.
- Identify the lithium battery, turn the PCB over and unsolder the battery legs.
- Adjust the legs on the new battery so that they match the holes on the PCB. Note that the legs and PCB holes are differently sized so that the battery can only go in one way.
- Solder the legs into the PCB.
- Reverse the process to reassemble.
- Note that the lithium battery is a CR2450 that is widely available as a button. However, the legs are “welded” onto the button so it doesn’t shake loose during operation. Don’t try to solder legs to the battery as it is impossible to get a good solder joint onto the battery case. I recommend ordering the replacement battery from Zojirushi (800) 733-6270. Alternatively, you may be able to solder in a battery holder (Google search “CR2450 battery holder”) and then it is easy to replace the battery.
