Question about Dell Dimension 4600 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Sound problem I have recently reinstalled the whole XP package, and my sound doesn't work at all...When I go to the control panel to try an adjust the volume it says 'no audio device' My real player and windows media player do not even attempt to play anything, real player saying it can't detect a sound card.... Not really sure what to do, I just have a standard pair of head-phone jack speakers that came with it, your help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Microphone(MIC)Of head set not working(got removed wrongly)

This usually just gets reinstalled whenever you restart your computer be it Vista or XP. In your case, the drivers for the Microphone probably got deleted. The Microphone driver comes in the package together with the sound card. You'll have to re-install the whole sound card driver to have it start working again. You can do this from the Device Manager. After doing this, the microphone together with the whole sound card drivers should start working again.

Sound

Well, probably they forgot to reinstall audio driver.
Check first that your volume is not at minimum ar audio had been muted, check from 'audio mixer' or from 'control panel/sound, speech.../adjust audio volume'
If volume and mute are ok, download driver from this website and install it again.
You need to select your model, your OS (windows version), and then audio or sound driver download.
Once you download the audio driver (chose save) run the download.
If you do it properly it will work again.

Computer can't find sound device

START - My Computer (RIGHT CLICK) - Properties - Hardware Tab - Device Manager button - click on the sound, video and game controllers - on the drop down menu you should see sound codec - either right click and UPDATE DRIVER - or delete sound codec’s and restart, XP will install suitable sound drivers.
If that doesn’t work then try installing sound drivers from the computer manufacturer.
If you have a big X on the sound codec or your third party drivers than it’s a hardware issue.
If replacing the drivers’ doesn’t work then it's a hardware issue. If you have onboard sound card then you will need to replace the mother board. I hope it's under warranty.
