No disc message on DVD Player

When I insert a DVD in my Sony DAV-S300 dvd player, I get a No Disc message in the display and the dvd will not play. I have tried disconnecting the power and reconnecting. It plays music cds okay. Any suggestions as to what might be the problem?

What you might want to try before giving up would be to get a lens cleaning disc. If that does not work then you may have to take off the top, locate where the small laser lens is, and with a small cotton swab, soak slightly in alcohol, and in a swirling motion, clean the laser lens, now with the dry end, do the same. Wait a few minutes for all the residue to dry. Plug in the unit, and see if you made any differance. If you did GREAT!!. If not well at least you tryed, and there is not alot more you can do as a consumer, without test equipment, or speacial jigs. It most likly will not be worth taking into a repair shop, as these days these players are almost a dime a dozen!. Good Luck Ps Please do not forget to rate this.

Have a Sony dav s-300. It stopped playing. Put a dvd in and won't start, reads ''no disc''. Put a cd in for music - same thing. Can't eject disc until you turn power off and turn back on. It did work once...

Take cover off, then cover on disc player. Laser has 3 screws for mounting. tighten the back one a little more. then disc will spin.

DVP-NS30 shows "CANNOT PLAY" message when DVD inserted

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if the DVD player cannot read or play the inserted disc.

Ensure the inserted disc is compatible with the DVD player.IMPORTANT: Refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product for a list of compatible disc. Manuals are available online in the Manuals/Specs/Warranty section of the Sony® eSupport Web site.
Use a soft cloth to clean the disc.
Examine the disc for any cracks or scratches that might be interfering with playback.
Attempt to play another disc.NOTES:
- If another disc plays in the DVD player, then the previous disc is faulty.
- Some recordable discs may not play correctly because of the quality of the recording, the physical condition of the disc, or the characteristics of the recording device or authoring software used.
Remove the disc from the DVD player.
Turn off the DVD player.
Unplug the power cord of the DVD player from the AC outlet.
Let the DVD player remain without power for 1 minute.
Plug the power cord back into the AC outlet.
Turn on the DVD player.
Insert the disc into the DVD player.
Attempt to play the disc.

If still persists, its time for your device to get serviced.

"no disc" message when disc is inserted

Id the disc clean of debris dust and scratches? Cleaned the unit aswell with a blue ray cleaning kit? Please do these things, if you find this helpful please use Fixya when rating Thanks

My dvd player (Sony dav s500 system) kept freezing and now always says"disc is dirty" and wont play. Can I connect another dvd player to the system? How would I connect the 6 speaker cables into the new...

Umm, this isn't just a DVD player, It.s an amplifyer too. Just leave the speaker cables alone, plug in the new dvd player into the "video2" jack, yellow cable onlt. Then,plug the audio cables into the video2 jacs (the red and white ones). Select "video2" on the SonyDAVS300 and "video2" on the tv. Insert the dvd into the new player and enjoy. It's screwy but it works through the amp and sends the picture to the tv.

No Disc

Stumpy, I think the first step could be to find out between the DVD player and the disc which one has a problem.If the DVD Player is able to play other discs then it is possible the problem is with the disc only. If that disc can be played quite alright in other DVD players then the problem is with your DVD Player. I suggest you trial that first. I think the indication of " No disc insert disc" could be that your DVD Player is failing to load or read the disc either because the disc has some scratches or because your DVD Player lens are not powerful enough.
