It sounds like your recoil has broken. You need to get to the recoil and see if you can get the spring within it to reconnect to the recoil housing or replace the recoil if it is broken.
The Ryobi TP30 also has the model number RY52014. This 2-cycle engine uses a 50:1 gas to oil ratio. That means that for every gallon of gasoline, you need 2.6 oz. of 2-cycle engine oil. This information is available on page 9 of the manual. Manuals Lib has the manual for the TP30 trimmer here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/143217/Ryobi-Ry52014.html .
Any type of 2-cycle engine oil will work fine. Just make sure it is 2-CYCLE engine oil, and not motor oil! Also, mix it at a ratio of about 1 part oil, to 40 parts Gas. Hint: The Ryobi equipment seems to like the 87 octane better than the low grade fuel, especially in high temps! Good luck!
If it is a 2 cycle, use 2-cycle oil. If it is a 4-cycle use the oil mentioned in the manual. If no manual, I would use a 30 weight oil. Good luck...Lee
