Need to turn OFF progressive scan on Sony DVD DVP-NS57P

I simply turned ON the progressive scan and now the screen is black and I can only hear the audio. I can't get back to the blue screen where I can display the menu options. Ultimately I am trying to play DVD+R's on this damn thing and I've been unsuccessful so far. My buddy at work burned them from limewire in MPEG format and they won't play on my dvd player. What do I need to do? When I insert the DVD+R it reads "no audio data" "no visual data". PLEASE HELP!!

    and to get it to standby mode? turn it off? or leave it on and let it sit for a while?

  • Anonymous Jan 06, 2009

    I tried pressing 3, 6, 9 keys while on standby and no luck.

    I've taken out all the cables and cords connected to the DVD player as well..

    Any other solutions?

With the remote: While in STOP mode, press the DISPLAY button. Use up/down buttons to select SETUP. Press Enter. Use up/down buttons to select CUSTOM.Press Enter. Use up/down buttons to select SCREEN SETUP. Press Enter. Use up/down buttons to select PROGRESSIVE. Press Enter. The manual is a bit indistinct after this, but I think the prompts will direct you. Just turn Progressive OFF.

Eureka! I did it! Now i share this with all good folks out there, for free. At the back of the dvd player u will find RGB component video out. With no disk on the plate, connect the yellow cable to the green jack out then to your Tv video input. Menu comes back on screen. Then simply put progrsv scan OFF. Bingo!

My sony portable dvd player stopped working. The

If the DVD is connected to the TV properly using the yellow, white & red AV cable and the TV is switched to AV and there is still no picture, plug the yellow lead from the back of the DVD player into the green socket. If you see a black and white picture now the DVD output is on Progressive Scan mode. See user manual to turn off Progressive Scan mode.

Sony DVP-NS57P all region

Try this,
1) Plug the DVD Power Cord to the wall jack, but DO NOT Turn On the player;
2) With the Remote Control, press: Display, Top Menu, Clear and Power;
3) It will enter in the Service Mode;
4) Choose option 2 and then 4;
5) It will ask for an Input Code and Current Code (its 5 spaces), press 1245 and then Zero;
6) Leave all Zero erasing 1245, and on the bottom field all Zero too, then press Enter;
7) So the DVD Display will show a Zero (all Region-Free),     then press Power to Turn Off.

No picture

It is probably in "progressive scan" mode, which is only viewable on Component (RGB) inputs. Refer to manual to toggle back to "interlace" mode. Either that or you have the TV on the wrong input.
