My machine turns on fine, runs for about 5 minutes, then shuts off showing that the water tank is empty??? When the tank is actually full. Any suggestions? I am truly disappointed in this machine. I have used it no more than 4-6 months max and am already having problems. I purchased the machine based on it being a "honeywell" and gotten less use from it than a Cheapy version I previously had.
The part of the machine that draws water up from the bottom, as well as the bottom tray, need to be cleaned from time to time, or it cannot accept water and will indicate the tank is empty. After removing the tank, unlock the top from the bottom by moving the small lever in the area the tank sits, then pull the entire top section off of the bottom tray. Dump the old water out, then put a solution of vinegar and water in the accepting section of the tray. Replace the top and let that set for a few hours to remove buildup. You may need to use a silicone scraper or something if there is significant buildup. Pour out the vinegar solution and rinse all of those sections off with clean water. Replace the top, lock the bar, and return the tank. Your problem should be fixed.

Feb 6, 2008 - Question about Vicks Warm Mist V745A 1 Gallon Humidifier ... Tank is full. ... for about another 5 minutes when the unit stops, reset light comes on etc. ...the humidifier since the reset light keeps going on immediately after I turn ... water in the tank because of course, the heater is on, but no water is getting ...
More than likely, mineral scale has built up inside the tank and the mist tubing.
To clean it, turn the unit OFF & unplug it. Empty any remaining solution that's in the tank and refill it with a 50/50 solution of White Vinegar and Bottled Distilled Water. Plug the unit in and turn it ON. Allow it to run for 5 minutes, then turn unit OFF and allow it to soak for 30 minutes to and hour. Then turn the unit back ON. If the water spitting has stopped, run the unit unit is half empty. Turn it OFF, unplug it and empty any of the remaining solution. Refill with Bottled Distilled Water and run it until it's empty. Doing so, will flush out any of the remaining solution and scale.
In the future, it is best to use Bottled Distilled Water, rather than tap water. As the Distilled Water does not contain any harmful minerals or chemicals.

The GE humidifier adds a continuous stream of cool mist intothe air, giving moisture to dry air due to cold weather or dry climate or tohelp those who desire additional moisture because of respiratory problems orallergies. Sold online and in many department or home retail stores, thehumidifier requires regular cleaning and maintenance for proper functioning andto help keep mineral scale or bacteria from growing in the humidifier.
·1 Connect the power cord on the GE humidifier firmly to a power outlet if thehumidifier is not working. Replace or reset the circuit breaker as necessary.Turn the power switch to "On" if there is power but the unit is notoperating.
· 2 Fill thewater tank to the "Fill" mark if the mist output is low or notpresent. Wait 15 minutes after filling the tank and before starting thehumidifier to allow the wick filter to absorb the water for proper function.Turn the humidistat knob to a higher setting for higher output.
· 3 Check the capon the water tank and close the cap firmly. Check the rubber tank cap ring onthe cap and reseat firmly to help provide a better seal.
· 4 Replace thewick filter with a new wick filter, available through General Electric, if thewick filter inside the base turns brown. Replacement parts may be ordered bycalling 877-207-0923.
· 5 Clean thewater tank with vinegar and a soft brush if the water begins to get cloudy.Rinse well before refilling with water. Use cold water in the tank, as warm orhot water may make the water appear cloudy.
· 6 Loosen thetank cap slightly if the humidifier cycles on and off unexpectedly. Turn theknob to a higher or lower setting.
Thanks.
The tubing to the mouth of the dolphin or the misting nozzle is clogged with mineral buildup and scale. To clean this, do the following.
Empty the water in the tank and replace it with a 50/50 solution of White Vinegar and Bottled Distilled Water. Allow the unit to sit for 30 minutes, then turn it ON. If mist does not appear within 10 minutes from the mouth of the dolphin. Turn the unit OFF and allow it to soak over night. In the morning, turn the unit ON and allow it to run. Once the mist appears where it should, run the unit until the tank is half empty. Then empty the tank of the remaining solution and refill with Bottled Distilled Water and run the unit until it is empty. This will flush all the remaining solution from the tank, tubing & nozzle.
In the future I would recommend using Bottled Distilled Water on a regular basis, rather than tap water. Doing so, will eliminate the problem of scaling.
Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.
The easiest ans simplest way to clean it, is too mix a 50/50 solution of White Vinegar & Bottled Distilled Water (enough to fill the tank) and fill the the tank with the solution. Allow it to set for 30 minutes, then turn the unit ON. Allow it to run, until the tank is half empty. Pour out the remaining solution and fill with the Bottled Distilled Water Turn the unit ON and run until the tank is almost empty. Following these instruction will remove all the lime and calcium build up in the unit.
Tip: Using bottled Distilled Water rather than Tap Water, will totally eliminate calcium and lime buildup.
I hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.
The sputtering may be caused by a calcium build up the water system. To solve the problem do the following.
Turn the unit OFF and unplug it.
Empty any remaining water from the tank.
Mix a 50/50 solution of Distilled White Vinegar and Bottled Distilled Water (enough to fill the tank). Pour solution into the tank and allow it to sit for 1 - 2 hours.
Plug the humidifier in and turn it ON. Allow it to run until the tank is only half full. If the sputtering has not stopped, turn the unit OFF and allow the unit to soak over night.
The next morning, turn the unit On and run for 20 minutes. Turn the unit OFF & unplug it. Pour out the remaining solution and refill with Bottled Distilled Water. Run the unit for an hour. This will flush out the lines. After that, it should run normally.
I would highly recommend using Bottled Distilled Water in the future, rather than Tap Water.
It probably has a calcium and mineral deposit buildup, that has clogged the unit. Especially, if you're using well water to fill the tank.
To solve this problem, empty the tank of any water that may still be in it and mix a 50/50 solution of White Vinegar and Bottled Distilled Water. Fill the tank with the solution and let it sit for i hour. Then turn the unit ON and let it run, until it starts producing humidity. Once it does, wait 10 minutes and turn the unit OFF and empty any remaining solution from the tank. Refill the tank with Bottled Distilled Water and run the unit for 10 minutes. This will flush the system of the Vinegar and Water solution. It's best to empty the tank again and refill with Bottled Distilled Water and use the humidifier as you normally would. I would highly recommend using Bottled Distilled Water from now on. This will eliminate any future calcium and mineral buildup and having to flush the unit repeatedly.
Hope this helps you solve the problem. Please let me know.
It may be clogged with mineral scale. Empty the water that you now have in the tank and refill it with a 50/50 solution of White Vinegar and Bottled Distilled Water. Let it soak for several hours and then turn the unit ON. If it starts working as it should. let it run another 5 minutes, turn it OF and empty the tank. Refill the tank with Bottled Distilled Water and allow it to run at least 45 minutes to flush the system. After that, if you do not detect any vinegar odor, you can continue to use the remaining Distilled water.
If the unit didn't work as it should have after several hours of soaking. Turn the unit OFF and let it soak overnight. If this solved the problem, I would recommend that you continue to use Bottled Distilled Water for normal operation, rather than tap water.
Per the operators manual you have to reset it.
1. Unplug the unit
2. Remove and refill the water tank, being sure to follow the Daily
Maintenance Instructions. Replace the tank onto the base.
3. Wait 5 minutes for the Automatic Shut-Off to reset.
4. After the 5 minutes, plug in the unit and turn the unit on to HIGH
(HI). The RESET light should now be off (if not repeat steps 1 through
3). In about 2-3 minutes, the humidifier will begin to produce
moisture.
Reset the unit once it is refilled by pushing the power button and holding it down for 5 seconds before releasing. This should reset your unit to factory settings.
