Digital camcorder problem

I have a sony dcr hc40E minidv handycam since last 3 yaers. recently i am facing typical problem. even if the power is off, the red light on camcorder's body for memory stick flashes. battery drains very fast. if I try to charge the camcorder with memory stick in, chrging light doesn't come on. if i charge after removing memry stick, charging light blinks (at the same frequency of red light of memory stick with power off, and no charging going on). battery information also does not get activated. camera can only be recharges after battery is completely drained but the problem of red light blinking re-coccurs. battery is drained very fast even in camera off condition. Pl help.

camcorder does not come on after the power button is switched on; during charging it only charges for a few minutes (approx 2/3mins) and charging light goes off

Sony HC-40E Charging Problem

Try loosening some of the screws on the handycam, to allow you to prise open the case slighly, allowing access to the strip coming from the switch. Cut a thin piece of rubber from an eraser, and gently stroke the wire strip with it. It works!
