My Canon PowerShot A80 has a metering problem I think

When taking pictures today, my Auto setting changed from 160/f 2.8 to 2000/f 8.0. The resulting pictures looked like they had been shot through a very dense light pink window screen. After I shut it down, changed batteries and turned it on again, the pictures were normal, but only for 2 shots, after which, it reverted to the weird setting and gave me the pink screen effect (light pink screen with lighter horizontal lines running across entire display). A couple of shots were completely black; the rest went back to the pink screen with the image barely visible. The settings for the number of pictures I can take with the 32 mb memory card also vastly decreased to 3 pictures in the large format. I changed the memory card and reformatted the new card, to no avail. I've taken great care with this camera - it's never been damaged, gotten dirty or been exposed to high humidity. I'm mystified. I love this camera! It was a replacement for a Toshiba digital that the motherboard died in 4 years ago.

I've been in touch with Canon and they are pretty much in agreement with your diagnosis. I'm in the process of getting the repair form and UPS label to return the camera to them for free repair of this problem. Thank you!

I have a Canon A80. Pictures turn out with a red/pink tint to them.

Check your white balance...it may be set to something other than "auto white balance".

Cannon PowerShot A80. Pictures come out with red tint and what appears to be horizontal lines across complete image. However, record video without problem.

If camera shows previously taken pictures in playback mode and does notshow live view to take fresh pictures then it is ccd imager chipfailure. CCD imager will be replaced in your Canon A80 camera.

Pictures names

First - be sure to copy all your pictures from the camera's memory card to your computer.

Second - using the camera's menus, reformat your memory card.

It's adding the _2 suffix to the filename because it thinks there's already a picture on the memory card with that name.
