The washer motor runs but the basket will not spin up unless empty. when the basket does spin up (empty) i can stop the spinning basket by hand. there does not apear to be belts on this motor (direct drive link)there are what apears to be friction pads (look like break pads) that are spring loaded on the drive unit. they look warn down. could this be the problem. any help would be apreciated.
Thank you
I have a Whirpool Ultimate II Washer... my problem is that the basket will not spin but just makes a loud noise as if it's not "catching" the spin mechanism. I'm wondering if this is a quick fix or should I try to buy another new washer..any thoughts appreciated I have a Whirpool Ultimate II Washer... my problem is that the basket will not spin but just makes a loud noise as if it's not "catching" the spin mechanism. Sounds like the agitator gears are completely worn out, it is $12.00 for kit and is easy to fix.Sounds like the agitator gears are completely worn out, it is $12.00 for kit and is easy to fix.

A very simple solution to r epairing all by yourself is getting help from handbooks, they're very detailed and complete in every way so for me it was my best source to repair

Quite likely the spin motor is a capacitor start type motor and has a capacitor to start it (by placing a winding slightly out of phase with the rest of the motor in turn encouraging the movement of the motor). When it reaches about 200 RPM the capacitor is disconnected and runs without it. Maybe the start capacitor is faulty or the internal switch/electronic control is faulty?
The F34 code normally only occurs when you are trying to run the CLEAN WASHER cycle. The washer should be completely empty of laundry when you are attempting to start this cycle. If the washer is empty and you are trying to run this clean washer cycle then you could have a friction problem with the spin basket that is causing the F34 code. Try turning the spin basket by hand with the washer empty and dry. The basket should turn relatively easily. If the basket will not spin easily you could have a problem with the bearing in the back of the outer tub or you could have an item stuck between the spin basket and the tub inside the washer.
Hello skull1829 , Was the Clutch/One-way roller bearing changed out for dc/UC errors in your FAV6800AW/FAV9800AW? If you start a Spin Only Cycle with an empty wash basket will the wash basket spin up CCW and complete the cycle?Lift the washer top from the base a few inches to observe the wash basket CCW rotation in spin cycle. If the clutch spring is broken or end pins of spring aren't seated the tumblers will rotate and the wash basket will rotate slowly CCW. IF the wash basket won't spin up can you pull the front cover off and insure the motor will rotate the clutch pulley CCW in a Spin Only Cycle?Let’s try these few basic tests and get some feedback for troubleshooting. The F51 error code indicates that the control is not sensing proper motor movement through the signals from the RPS (rotor position sensor) circuit. This can be caused by several different problems. Make sure that you are not overloading the washer. Overloading can cause this problem. A toy or foreign object could be under the washer that is interfering with motor rotation. With the washer empty, spin the basket inside the washer tub to see if it spins relatively easily. If not, you could an item caught between the spin basket and the tub. You could have a wire harness problem causing signals to not be transmitted properly between the RPS and the machine control board. A failed RPS sensor or a failed control board could also cause this problem.
Basket Re-engagement Failure.
F then 72 flashes when the basket check routine fails to determine if the basket is re-engaged after being disengaged. Is the basket floating? If yes, pump out water. See Long Drain. Does basket turn freely? If not, determine cause of friction.

It sounds to me like either there is an excessively heavy load in the washer and the unit simply isn't strong enough to get it going, or more likely the clutch mechanism/gearbox is malfunctioning. They use a clutch mechanism to allow the motor to run at a constant speed while the basket can start rotating slowly and pick up speed with time. If this clutch mechanism or gearbox isn't performing properly, the basket won't spin. It's not your motor or safety circuit since the basket will turn if given a little push.
Always rule out first: Unsorted, too big or off balance load, too high or restricted drain, oversudsing or water not draining completely out before going into spin. Otherwise the brake could be not releasing fully or the clutch lining is worn. Pull the basket and transmission and check the basket drive.
Just fixed the same problem. Its a broken belt. Take the front panel off and to the right of the tub you will see a pulley and belt. We replaced both the pulley and the belt for around $40. Was real easy to do yourself.
