Knowing the brand name and model number for the vacuum but I can give you a generic way of changing the belt. You 1st need to remove the bottom plate by screws, levers or clips, then you can get @ the belt, if not then you should remove the top cover and then you can get @ the belt. 1st remove the belt from the brushroll and install the new belt on the pulley side of the brushroll and then use a belt puller or a screwdriver with a bend on the end and then stretch the belt onto the motor pulley and then track the belt in a straight line so that is running in a straight line. Replace the bottom plate and the belt change should be done. Please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area. http://geeksquad.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?prdid=0&thid=698244 Generic problem for all Vacuums I require a new drive Posted by martiy on Jun 23, 2008 I require a new drive belt for my upright vacuum cleaner Hello, I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. In order to change your belt I would need to know the brand name and the model # in order to give you the correct information to change your belt, so a little bit more information needed as to what you have and then I can direct you in the belt change. Normally there are screws in the bottom of the vacuum and once you remove the screws or clips you can either change it from the bottom or the top cover will lift off and then you can get @ the belt from the top. The average and recommended belt change for a flat belt is every 4 to 6 months and if you have a geared belt it is once a year for the best cleaning. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions. http://geeksquad.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?prdid=0&thid=683113 Generic problem for all Vacuums I need to change the Posted by catch100681 on Jun 18, 2008 I need to change the belt on the Hoover preferred 16.0 how do I open it up? Hello, I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. There are only 2 ways in order to change the vacuum belt on a Hoover vacuum cleaner. There should be a couple of levers or screws on the bottom of the vacuum. Once you remove the screws and or the bottom plate the belt should be exposed –if not then the top cover of the vacuum will come off and then you can service it from the top of the vacuum. The average flat belt change is every 4 to 6 months for the best cleaning and to store the extra belts in a Ziploc bag in the refrigerator, for some reason if the belt is a geared belt then you would change it once year. If you have a question look inside your owners manual or to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area.
