Dell Inspiron N4020 won't boot past initial Dell screen

Can anyone help. My Dell Inspiron N4020 notebook won't boot past the initial Dell screen. all it does and sit on a black screen with a blinking white cursor. I can hit F2 set up and F12 boot options but that's it. It was acting up yesterday where it would boot up and then shut down right away and now it won't even boot. Any help would be appreciated!

I should also add that I've tried hitting F8 after the BIOS screen and nothing happens.

I was hoping there might be something else I can try to diagnose what the problem really is. The Pre-boot diagnostic tests all passed.

I'm having the same problem, Dell Inspirion 1300, Won't go past the BiOS and Dell loading screen. Can't run Diagnostics, Can't go to any of the F2, F12, F8 Commants.. Just sits at a black screen with a white cursor at the top left corner.

My Dell Inspiron N4020 Laptop power button don't come on when I press to boot it. what happen?

Ensure the power cable is fully inserted into the charger slot, ensure the charger itself is firmly connected to the wall and if there is a power brick in the charger ensure all parts of that are connected. It just sounds like the battery is dead.

Administrator password

You may have to contact Dell directly if its a hard drive or BIOS password.
I do know using a Windows 7 install disc will repair this error (if you can get past the password). Just insert and choose repair. gl

Dell Inspiron 1501 won't boot

The initial Dell Screen you see at the begining is your BIOS access. Push F12 repeatedly when you see this screen and it will take you into a system restore mode. It will let you boot from CD first (which your PC is not set up for). You should be able to start the CD fine from there.

Power off your computer, then power on hitting F12, del or whichever key it states to go into setup. From the setup menu, select change boot order or boot menu. Set the CD ROM to the first boot device. Save changes. Restart. Your computer should boot to cd starting the installation.
