My original charger broke so brought a new one and now it wont charge in the car but will do at home in a usb port
Hi Carl,
You should check your car's fuses to see if the one that supplies power to your USB charger is still good. If you're not sure how to do this, you could try plugging a different device into it and see if it works. If it doesn't - you'll need to inspect the fuse or wiring. (you could also try the charger in a different port or different car to see if the issue is tied to the charger).
If the other device does work, it is possible that the charger has a built in fuse. If the charger is the type that plugs into your cigar lighter, you may find the the tip holds the fuse. The tip may reveal the fuse if unscrewed from the body or may require a screw driver to open the body. Either way, you'll need to ascertain if there is a fuse in it and if so, check its condition.
Sometimes, the charger needs to be aligned a certain way in the cigar lighter / power port (or outlet) due to the way some automakers and device manufacturers design the connections. Repeatedly remove and replace the plug in the lighter / port. Each time, turn the the plug slightly so that it takes 6 to 8 insertions to rotate all the way around in the outlet. This should provide at least one position that allows the plug to make the required contact in the lighter / power port.
Lastly, make sure that there is no foreign object / debris in the outlet, that the the plug fits snugly in the outlet, the the plug's tip has a spring pushing it forward and that the plug is fully inserted into the outlet.
Hopefully, one of these suggestions will get it working. Good luck!
SOURCE: navman won!t charge from in
Your Navman will not run in car unless the output on the charger is 1000ma or 1a. you need to buy a genuine charger, motorola phone chargers do not have the output to run the unit

Hello,
An alternative is to use a navman P1 "hotshoe" This allows charging to be carried out through the bottom strip connector.
Available from Magicgadgetz at a cost of £20
SOURCE: navman f20 will charge fron usb port on computer
If it's not the original Navman usb loader then there's a easy solution to this : With a sharp knife carefully open the usb cable : you'll see four tiny cable's with different colours . You;ll have to cut two of those four cables ; Leave the black and red cable intact.
Use some tape to fix the cut in the usb cable. Now you can use your car charger and your navman won't go into usb mode.

Make sure that the USB cable is properly plugged in and use the original cable that came with your player.
Computer in Hibernation mode
Make sure the computer isn't entering hibernation or sleep mode while the device is connected. The computer must be ON in order to charge your player.
USB Port 2.0
Make sure the player is connected to a USB 2.0 port (1.1 occasionally causes charging problems).
USB Port location
Try plugging into different USB ports (i.e. USB port in the back of the computer); occasionally the front USB ports have limited power to charge up the device.
Battery
Make sure the battery is fully charged. It takes approximately 3 hours to fully charge the battery.
Latest firmware
Depending on what Sansa player you have, make sure it's up to date with the latest Firmware.
AC charger (optional)
AC chargers (sold separately) have a 500-1000 milliamp max output, which provides much better charging ability than a USB port. These accessories are available at SanDisk web site.
