I have a spectroniq PDV-808 portable dvd player. the disc lid is broken and the disc will not spin around to play dvd. can i find a replacement disc lid?
Not sure if you can find a replacement lid but you may be able to play DVD's if you manually depress the small switch that the lid would engage if it were closed. The switch is located where the lid hinges at the right side, you should see a small rectangular hole. The switch can be depressed through that hole. Of cousre, your DVD will be spinning with no lid to protect it but just don't touch it while the disc is playing. When done playing, you can just turn the unit off or remove whatever you used to engage the small lid switch.

it could be that when you close the lid it does not press the switch that start the motor.
if you see the disc spining maybe the laser head is not clean
or the main board is broken
You will have to purchase a replacement battery from the manufacture or their authorized parts distributor. Don't waste time looking in electronics stores, because you won't find it there.
First try a couple more discs. If it still doesn't work. Take a little bit of alcohol on a qtip and clean off the little clear circle under the lid. Make sure the dics you are using a not scraped and not foreign. If that doesn't work, order a new one and put the old one in the new box and send it back as broken.
The 4:3 is an aspect ratio the ratio of horizontal to vertical size and the non-HDTV standard; the latter is 16:9.
The PAL and NTSC abbreviations refer to the picture and synchronization standards whereby NTSC is the American standard and the PALs are European.
The setting "sp-raw" refers to an unprocessed video format that requires further processing before it can be viewed. If the disk you have was made for the American market, you should be set to NTSC and the aspect ratio to whatever the disk is specified, most recent disks will be made to conform to HD specifications, but may also be viewed in "letterbox" form which is a shrunken 16:9 box with pronounced edges around it.

ribbon cable issue found with this device. look inside at the white ribbon cable. The cable likes to bunch in bewtween the spinning hub and the eye assembly, after time it may even develope a rub spot that will shut you down for good. If the cable is bunched up, try pushing it back into the bottom of the device and try again.
