We just recently received brand new Directv receivers. It has a universal remote to control the receiver and the tv. Everything worked great until two days ago. Now the new universal remote won't control the tv and the old remote for the tv won't control it either. The tv can manually be turned on and off, but neither control can run it. We have tried new batteries, and tried to reprogram the codes in for the universal remote.
You have already diagnosed the problem, the remote receiver on the tv is bad,is rare but it happens but before you call for help try unpluging the tv from the wall for 10 minutes and then plug it back in and try it,sometimes this takes care of the problem,if that does not do it you will need the help of a servicer ,your remotes are working but the receiver is not processing the information. If you are familiar with tv service it should be easy to locate the receiver, sometimes is soldered to the chassis and sometimes is part of the push button assembly and conected to the chassis by wires,if is part of the push button is easier to replace,if you are not too familiar with tv service be safe and ask for help.
