Hello there!

It's fortunately quite easy to adjust the resolution your MacBook Pro sends over to your external display.  Try this:

  1. Click the blue Apple icon, at the top-left of your display (while connected to your 23" external monitor).
  2. Click on "System Preferences".
  3. Click on "Displays" in the "Hardware" row.
  4. A display preferences window should now open on each display... one on your laptop, and one on the 23".
  5. In the "Display" tab of this preference window, specifically the one located on your 23" display, should be a list of resolutions available.  Scroll down and select the highest resolution, which for a 23" should be 1920x1200.
This should adjust your resolution to the maximum.  To make these settings easier to get to in the future, check the box in the display preferences labeled "Show displays in menu bar".  You'll see a small icon, meant to look like a display, appear in your menu bar.  Going forward, you can click on this to set/change resolution settings without going through all the above steps.

Hope this helps!

My 23" Apple cinema display (2002) has black screen and code flashes three short flashes. How do I find out if the monitor is dead or the power supply?

The only way to test is to use a known working power supply or known working cinema display with the parts you already have.

I have macbook pro and a 30" apple hd cinema display the best resolution I can get on the display is 1280x800 where are the higher resolutions?

Your computer will always give you all available options for resolution. If there is no higher resolution available in the settings screen, there is no higer resolution available for you. This is linked to your graphical processing unit inside your PC. This cannot be changed that easily

Just bought a use apple 23" hd display. The color seems to be somewhat yellow and is not a vibrant as my other apple 23" why

Optical components vary, especially when they have been pre-owned and subject to unknown temperatures and environmental conditions.
You can tune the yellow cast out of your monitor and improve the color range by opening Apple Menu / System Preferences / Displays, selecting the Color tab on the screen in question (two will appear), and running the interactive calibration routine.

Image/screen shifting with mouse position

I realized my issue was that the screen was "slightly" zoomed in using the universal access panel in the system preferences. Turning it off, or zooming out completely solved the problem.

Apple Cinema Display 23" HD - Dust on inside of screen.

Well, I pretty much knew that the display would have to be disassembled to clean the dust out. I should have been more specific by asking if the display "could" be taken apart to clean it out, especially since the dust is in between the image and light source layers.
