Your card is probably locked take out the memory card and on the side is a lock tab slide the tab to unlock when you put it in your camera it may say format card when you do this it will format the card but will delete any pictures saved to the actual cameras memory so save them on your computer or print them.

I have a memory card in my camera but it wont let me take pictures. the screen says Memory card is protected reset switch on memory card....

You neglected to specify the make and model of your camera, so I'm assuming it uses SD/SDHC cards.
SD/SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

What make and model camera? On most cameras you unprotect a picture the same way you protected it, possibly by pushing a "protect" button. No matter what, you can clear everything off the card by formatting it. Cards should be formatted each time after you download pictures to a computer instead of deleting individual pictures. FixYa is full of people asking how to salvage pictures from cards they didn't format.

I have a "! Protected Card" message on my screen

Look at the memory card again. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

Hi... i have an Olympus Camera model no. E-P1 and i can't take picture because there's this "write protect" popping out on the screen... can u help me please on how to remove the "write protect" so i can...

This camera uses SD or SDHC memory cards. This type of card has a little switch on it that can write protect the card. Make sure that the switch is moved towards the edge of the card that has the contacts, not towards the middle.

Canon PowerShot SX20 IS Digital Camera keeps giving me a memory card error. The memory card is a 4gig PNY memory card (lower budget)

Make sure the slide switch on the side of the card is unlocked. Your camera may just want you to format the card in the camera. Download any pics from it first using a card reader if necessary.

Write protect message appears on screen

Sounds as if the memory card may be corrupted. In order to remove the write protect, make sure you have downloaded and saved all of the images from the memory card to your computer and then having the card in the camera you will need to run the format option and this will permanently remove the write protect as well as all of the images from the card.
The card should be able to be used again after the write protect is removed.

"Write Protect"?!

It's the memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.
