I had the exact same problem! What I did was reset the mp3 player (you lose all the songs, but I had lost them anyway) and then uninstalled Connect Player. Like the other post says, install SonicStage instead from the Sony website (It's on version 4 now) and use that. You lose the the Top 100 Songs ability and the artist link function, but it seems an ok price to pay to get your mp3 working again

All I can suggest is that you go to the sony website and first go to the download page for sonicstage cp. There is a link to update your firmware to 3.0. After doing that, if you arent already using it, download sonicstage cp from there and use that instead of connect or old sonicstage. That will probably sort you out.

SONY NW-A3000

Bad news - if you tried multiple pc's and it still failed, then your player is done.

Make sure you:
reset the player
upgraded the firmware
used the recovery tool
called Sony to be sure
last ditch effort:
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware.
Wizard.

Error code 82040008

Ive searched but can't find anything on your error code. It seems Sony made a real lemon with this unit and made many thousands of people very unhappy. Most of the trouble seems to originate with the lousy software. The latest downloads can be found at http://www.sonydigital-link.com/DNA/WM/NWH/NWH.asp?l=en Personally if I owned it and had the chance I'd be going for a more reliable unit. Check out this site for unhappy customers. http://www.kanai.net/weblog/archive/2006/01/24/08h35m18s BMW
