HI..

if You dont Get the Hard disk Selection option's when you install from a disk ... YOu will have to either install the sata raid drivers or else you will have to change the sata support in bios to native or compatiblilty mode ...

then you willl be able to format the drive. ..

You need to use a Windows install disk, or the computer recovery disk.

At startup of new windows installation, chose new installation and then chose the option Format hard drive.

Note: the windows install disk must be bootable, Upgrade install disk (non bootable) does not have the format option.

If it is a new hard drive then it needs to be formatted. You can do this by going into your start menu - control panel - administrative tools - computer management - disc manager. I could be a little off on the wording as I don't have my computer handy, but in the disc management you should be able to right click on the drive in here and choose format. This will format the drive to be used. I hope this helps.

Connect your harddrive to computer then in my computer note down the drive letter. Then in command prompt type below. format g: where G: assume as your harddrive letter then format. Depends on what operating system you want to use to format this puppy, but you can use XP to format it if this is a external harddrive plug it in start your op system right mouse click on the drive and hit format..

Hard drive upgrade
It has to have SATA Hard Drive Connector DFHS22FR685, if you have this then I would try to format the hard drive to what your operating system is using, either NFTS or FAT32. The drive may not be properly formated for your system.

My Book 1Tb will not let me copy movies on to it.
To transfer files larger than 4GB to the drive, the harddrive must have an NTFS File system. Unfortunately, the FAT32 File system is not capable of handling a single file larger than 4GB (to be exact, one byte less than 4GB). Follow the steps below to format the harddrive with an NTFS File system:
Warning, all data on the harddrive will be lost! Please backup the data on the harddrive before proceeding.
  1. Locate My Computer (Computer in Vista). Right-click on the harddrive and select Format.
  2. Select NTFS from the File system drop-down list.
  3. Select Quick Format as the Format option and click Start.
    4. Note: If NTFS is not an available option, close the Format window and follow steps 4-9.
  4. Right-click My Computer (Computer in Vista) and select Properties.
  5. Select the Hardware tab and click Device Manager.
  6. Expand Disk drives and right-click on the harddrive. Select Properties.
  7. Click on the Policies tab and select "Optimize for performance.”
  8. Click OK.
  9. Repeat steps 1-3.

Computer not reading the hard drive
i have formatted the hard drive and put in all three recovery discs and it still won't load windows xp home edition.. i thought that was what the recovery discs were for.. maybe the hard drive is bad i don't know but if someone is having the same problem i could sure use some help here..
