I had gone in the house, and a few minutes later it started to pour rain.I ran out to get my cellphone, and was met with this problem. It will start (and make the introduction song) then the screen lights up,but displayes no letters or numbers or options.I can call out and receive calls, but there is no way I can read anything on the screen. What I did was this.I took the phone apart, battery out,and left it to dry for 24 hrs. After all this I reassembled and turned it on.Now you can just barely read whats on the screen. Not enough to make it even close to being able to read the functions that were so evident before this mishap. Thank John
PS. It is a nokia phone I think it said model 61? or something along that line. Have you tried taking pictures with it? Do the pictures show up when taken? If so, then it's likely that you might have accidentally pressed the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the LCD display on and off to save batteries. You would then use the optical viewfinder in its place. To turn the screen back on, just press the DISP button one more time.
when i switch off and then switch on the phone then display comes for the
time i am using the phone. As i
left the phone for sometime without pressing any key it again goes to that white
screen mode..but phone is functioning .plz help me to rectify the problem.....
If the LCD screen is blank or black when you have your camera in the Camera or Play mode, the camera may need service. To determine if this is the case, follow these steps:
1. Press the Menu button to see if the LCD screen can display the OSD (On Screen Display).
2. Set your camera to Play mode, and then see if the LCD screen displays a picture.
3. To eliminate the possibility of a user setting causing the problem, put the unit into Auto mode by rotating the dial on the units exterior to Auto Mode.
Note: The word "Auto" appears on the screen when this mode is activated.
4. If putting the camera into Auto mode does not resolve the problem, test the unit in Play mode. If the unit operates normally in Play mode, but the screen in Camera mode is blank, your camera requires service which you can arrange by Creating a Service Ticket below.
Note: Because your camera has an automatic LCD display shutdown feature, its normal for the LCD to stop displaying when the camera has been on for along period of time. This feature prolongs battery life.
hello, these units have a very fine zoom switch and can get damaged by a drop or fine sand. the zoom switch sits under the actual button. if you turn the camera on in camera mode and the display is showing the zoom on screen display then you know it is the switch.
It is not clear if you are saying whole camera turns off or just screen turns off.
Notice before the camera went bad the lense does not extend in play mode, while it does in record mode. Many cameras have software that automatically turns camera off if lens cannot/fails to extend for some reason. Try to help it extend in record mode before camera turns off.
Thanks for your reply
Out of frustration I was sitting looking at the camera and thought to try all buttons and see what hapenned. On the righthand side of the camera in the bottom left position is a button marked display. Normally during live display mode, you can either switch the screen on or of by pressing this button (to conserve the batteries). If the camera is powered off and then on again, the screen automatically is in live display screen active mode again. For some reason my display remained off. When I depressed this button once after switching the camera on - voyla! The display worked again in live viewing mode. I do not know whether the screen is supposed to stay in the off mode when powered down in live display off mode even when it is switched off and then back on again or not, but the previous times I did, it was automatically on when powered up again.
So, before repairing your camera, please make sure that it is actually broken - refrain from making a fool of yourself like I did.
Thanks once again for your support

Does the play back show any of the pictures you have taken before? are you sure the little lens cover is opening? there is a shield that closes down to keep the lens protected from debris and finger prints. Sometimes they can get jammed and not open. Tap on the front of the lens see if it opens.
Switch it to auto mode if its not in auto mode.
