Battery Problems CANON A80 Battery Problems Have had a CANON A80 for nearly three years. The first two years were great. The batteries would last for ages between charges, and with a new baby we took lots of photos. Then the batteries started playing up. Fully charged batteries would only last a few days, or if left would not power up at all. Have replaced the batteries, and the chargers with no improvement. Here in NZ there is a huge wait for repairs, so if it is beyond repair I?ll just replace it. Any suggestion? Cheers.

Our A80 first gave a warning that the batteries were low. New batteries didn't work, and now the camera doesn't even turn on. I went through the troubleshooting manual, but no luck with that, either.

My makita batteries nolonger charge

Lithium batteries do have a life span determined by how many times the battery is discharged and recharged and how hard it is worked on the tool. Batteries get hot while charging and discharging and heat is what ages batteries. Lithium batteries, depending on usage, will last from one to three years. I've seen some last five years but that's rare. They also have numerous cells and a circuit board that can go bad and kill the battery. Chargers are designed to check the battery's condition and won't charge a battery if it detects something wrong. If your battery is under one year old, it's covered by the warranty. If it's over, you'll have to buy a new battery.

Batteries run out fast

If the recharageable battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and graduallythe charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The batteryshows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops offto zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptablecharge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

Battery is recharged and full but camera says to replace battery pack

How old is the battery? It's only meant to last a couple years at most. If it's that age, time to consider a new battery. Fortunately, generic NB-4L batteries are very inexpensive these days. Here's some examples. Just make sure to read the buyer reviews as some generics are better than others.

Canon PowerShot A80 - no display through the lens

See this link. The symptoms indicate that your CCD (image sensor) failed. Canon will repair this at no charge, regardless of warranty status. Contact them as described at the link.

Acer 5315 Battery cHarging Problems

All rechargeable batteries have a limited life, and as they age their charge capacity reduces over time and you get shorter and shorter time between charges.
Recharage batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and batteries over 2 years old are considered nearly worn out. Worn out batteries won't charge up at all.

Will only work with 1.5V battery output instead of 1.2V

How old are the rechargeables? Also, am assuming you are using NiMH and not the inferior low-power NiCads. Rechargeables NiMH really aren't meant to last more than a year or two, regardless of how often they were recharged. If the batteries are older than a year, suggest trying a new set.

Canon A80 camera-red tint and horozontlal lines on pictures

I had the same thing happen to me last November. Canon has a recall of sorts on a wide range of older cameras. Apparently there is an issue with the sensor. Canon will fix the camera free under this recall program.

Here is a writeup of my experience with Canon's customer support (good):

Zoom button of canon elura minin dv

I had a similar problem. Searching Google for a solution, I came across the old -- "if it doesn't work, smack it" trick:

Remove any tape in the camera.
Remove the battery.

With your hand holding the top of camera, hit it firmly with a book on the bottom. I used about a 200 page paperback.

I suspect it is a electro-mechanical switch that gets stuck in the "On" position, and a little jolt frees it up again.

I have done this twice in the last month, and it works great.

Canon PowerShot A80 loses date/time settings when turned off

The camera has a watch battery inside that has expired. Many of the Canon Powershots have external access doors for replacement of this battery. Unfortunately though for the A80 it's not easy to replace. It's buried deep inside the camera behind the card reader slot. It can be viewed on page 4 of the following disassembly of a very similar A95:

http://qman.fotokala.ee/Kaamerad/PowerShotA95/index.html

Due to the complexity of accessing the battery, do NOT recommend that you try replacement yourself. Instead recommend that you continue to bypass on startup.
