Brother typewriter sx 4000

Not typeing the right letters

    does not type the proper letter when you press the corresponding key

    playing with the code and q keys eventually straightened up the typing but when the machine was turned off and back on it was typing the wrong letters again

Make sure the ribbon and correction tape are installed correctly between the metal fingers on the far side of the printwheel and the cardholder. make sure there is no forien objects in the P/W or anything touching the petals on the P/W. turn mach. off for 10 secounds then back on or just hold down the code key and hit the Q (reset) if it still doesn't work, it will need repair or replacement.

If you aren't in KBII or a language mode or P.S. pitch the printwheel homing pawl is probably broken. You need a tech.

There are two things that people mess up when changing printwheels and ribbons. Is that the ribbon is not in the guides properly. The other is that the latch the holds the type wheel is not locked in the forward position.

Typing wrong letters on Brother SX-4000

Try hitting [CODE] + [RESET] at the same time to reset the cartridge. Make sure the cassette is installed correctly.. the "ear" on the cassette should always be on the upper right.

Letter skipping

Take a look at the ribbon, making sure it is moving eack key stroke you should be able to read you typing thru the ribbon.
