Hello, I have a treo 650. Recently the keyboard stopped working. I did a hard reset and I can press up button to erase my harddisk. Then it asks me to select a language by pressing the center consol. I try to scroll but it won't work. I tried doing hard resets a few more times but I alsways gets stuff there. Thinking this may be a dirty keyboard issues, I opened up the device (don't worry- no warantee on it anyway) cleaned the boards and pads and still no fix. It did work temporaraily until I closed the unit back up and it stopped again. I have not been able to since replicate the fix. I wonder if it's the circuitry in teh ribbon that connects the board to the device. Note, the red power button continues to work. No letters, no scroll, etc though. Any help is appreciated.
This is a "grounding issue". There are several ground locations on the board which the keyboard needs to be isolated from. You will notice when putting the housing back on, before you put the screws back in, that the keyboard works perfectly. As you begin putting in the screws, one by one, check whether the keyboard continues to work correctly. I have found that you need to isolate the keyboard from these screws by adding some isolation. This can be done by putting a piece of black tape on the board where the screw goes through.

THere is a screw just under the antenna ( remove small rubber plug with a sharp knife) and the keyboard can be replaced although I had a similar problem and it was the ribbon not seated all the way into the holder.
