You should have left the washer door open until the interior of the washer is completely dry before shutting the washer door.

This seal should have a small drain built into it at the very bottom. It often gets plugged with lint and slime, but can usually be cleared out with a pipe cleaner. As far as removing the mold, have you tried white vinegar?

Were there recalls on any of ghese models

The problem of residual water in front load washers is an on going problem. Some companies had put in a small drain hose in their units to alleviate the problem. Your washer is actually built by Whirlpool. There is no available auxiliary drain for these models. These are the suggested solutions to alleviate for your particular machine.

1. Leave the door open after wash completed. This will help to evaporate the residual water. If in an area where the door cannot be left fully open then place a towel over the top of the door to keep it from closing and that will help by keeping the door open a small amount.

2. To alleviate odor, pour one cup of bleach in the drum... DO NOT PUT ANY CLOTHES IN THE MACHINE! Put the washer through a wash cycle... some models had a clean cycle if your has this then use this cycle. Once this has completed remember to do a white load following this procedure to assure that if there is any bleach residual then it wont cause problems with colors.

3. Dry the door seal after each use... this will eliminate mold from developing on the door seal. If you see mold then use a bathroom cleanser for mold removal to clean the seal... DO NOT USE A SOLUTION OF VINEGAR... THIS COULD DRY OUT THE SEAL CAUSING IT TO CRACK THUS REQUIRING REPLACEMENT.

FYI: The Maytag Company went bankrupt sometime ago, the name Maytag wash purchased by Whirlpool and appears on products to secure the business of faithful Maytag users...

Is it better to replace a timing belt by mileage on it or time

As a rule mileage is the better gauge, but if the vehicle has sat unused for months at a time, then It is best to change it. If the car sits for long times, the rubber dries out and becomes "molded" to the position it is sitting in, becoming brittle and prone to breaking.

Mold on rubber seal on Maytag front load washer

this was and is still a common problem with maytag and for the most part all front load washers... make sure if your rubber seal has a hole in the ceter for the drain it is clear and not clooged partially... the only solution really is clean it with a cleaning solution to kill mold and then after each cycle try to leave door cracked so that air gets to boot/seal so that it stays dry....
hope this helps.... maytag actually had a lawsuit over the neptunes and now are owned by whirlpool coorporation due to that law suit and a dishwasher they had that would catch fore... servicer for 18 years now good luck to you

Rubber door seal problem

In my 13.5 years experience I have never experienced a door seal coming away from the drum!!!
If this was the case then you would have a major water leak!!!

Does the door seal look twisted at all?
Have a good look at the seal. Is there any black mold on the seal?

If the seal has come off then I would need to guide you through the refit process.

Please email me on: [email protected] and I will email you back my phone number

Water won't completely drain from tub. Door seal is very moldy.

Had a simular problem. In my unit the water was not visible in the drum but you could hear it when you turned the drum by hand.  The answer as told to me by the Maytag repair man:  The machine is designed to hold the water after the cycle is complete.  As he was replacing the boot seal he suggested to just leave the door open so the seal will dry out and not mold.  This has been working for the past several years.  No mold has appeared on the new boot seal.

From another source I read that the water is left in the machine for balance.

Change rubber gasket

Remove the door hinges and plastic covers on the unused hinge screw holes on the opposite side of the door opening (door is reversable, so there are places to mount hinges left and right). Front panel will now snap out at top and lift off lower spring clips. One screw on each side will now release top panel and it will hinge up. Prop up with broom handle or something. Now you can get at everthing. Rubber gasket is held onto drum with a cable loop and very strong spring. It rolls off the lip easily to disassemble but is VERY difficult to get back on without special tools or at least two people. We used strong vice grips and much struggling and sweat, and #@*&%[email protected] and finally got it on without damage to the new gasket. Door side of rubber gasket is easy in comparison with rubber tabs inserted into slots and working the gasket into a groove. Hose clamp at bottom of rubber gasket to connect drain hose.
