Your set should have a separete stereo amplifier board ,follow the wires from the speakers and it should take you to it,tap on this board and see if the sound changes if not try taping on the main board, dont over do it and do not use anything metal use the plastic handle of a screwdriver,it should not take too much to make it react then you know you have a loose conection,if you are familiar with tv service this should help but if you are not too familiar be safe and call for help.If you dont have loose conections at the audio output the voltages will have to be checked.

I own a Toshiba TW56F80 rear projection unit. I've owned it since 1997, and it has served me well. A few months ago, I heard a zap sound from inside the cabinet, and all my remote functions stopped. I can...

Sounds like to me that a HV Arc or a Static discharge has corrupted the eeprom data or caused the Main Micro Processor to lock out those features. Have you unplugged the set for 24hrs? As easy as this sounds it is true that allowing the lower voltages bleed off so the eeprom and micro are able to fully re-set themselves. I doesn't always work but if you have not tried it, try it . That would be a cheap fix. If this does not fix it, parts are going to be tough to get because of the age of the unit. Toshiba may not even manufacture them any more.
Good Luck,

I own a classic Sansui intergrated amplifier (AU-717). It has a short in one channel. At low volume, the sound shorts out. I've had this unit for about 20 years now. Otherwise, it's a great product!

Hi mellemcee

Cool amp mate, and becoming collectable now to. Sansui amps from the era where the best in the world of HiFi. iT may have lost bias control to the offending channel, it may have dirty source switches, tape monitor switch, or even speaker switching. The speaker protection relay may also have a dirty contact, will usually burst back into life with a quick rotation of the vol control. Can you pin the problem down a little more with the info i have given you, try all the controls to see if it impacts on operations, you will need to fix those problems first. Low bias would make that channel sound distorted at low levels also. Is this what is happening to you??

Loudness Equalization : on

Equalizer: Choose one (Jazz seems to be loudest setting but sounds of hallway effect so I use powerful for clarity.)

This has more than doubled the level of volume on my acer 5570.
