but I did discover that MOST of our options

Carnac the Magnificent

Because the PCM went into default mode when you unplugged it. When you plugged it back in, the PCM tried to adjust and reset. Opening the IAC motor causing to much air to come in and killed the engine. Fairly normal response for the engine. Since you modified the engine, did you modify the PCM? Can't do one with out the other.

What type of unit? Most units can be hard wired to a regular thermostat but you will need the owners manual to reset the program in the circuit board. The manual can be downloaded from the internet.

You can order a new remote or hard wire a regular thermostat to the unit. The owners manual will show you how to wier it and to program it.

Clearly with the owner manual if needed but most programming for the consumer is done by with the remote hitting the menu button and looking for what you want---channels? look for antenna/cable in setup part of menu and select which you have---locate Auto program and engage and set searches for all available channels based on what is hooked up to it for signal.

If you need a owner manual GOOGLE works best with the model number of the set and "manual" or similar words.

If no owners manual GOOGLE THE MODEL NUMBER WITH manual to locate one.

Programming is done usually with the remote by entering the MENU and looking for what you want to program.
