Re: keeps swirching to protect mode
First thing to do is disconnect all of the speaker wires on the amp. Turn on the amp, if it is still turning on and off then there is a definant problem in the amp circuitry. If you have no solid state service skills, I highly advise you to take the amp into a repair shop. If it stops turning on and off turn off the amp and try and connect up one speaker at a time untill the amp starts to mess up. you then take that speaker and have it checked out and inspect the wireing for pinchs or shorts.

My MTX 600xd amp light won't even come on. ... Red light comes on. ... one.. and some times it goes into protection... once I turn the car off...
When you remove boards, you may be breaking a circuit somewhere that is causing the shutdown. Pioneer uses rear panel jacks for ground points a lot, and if even one of these screws is out it can cause it to shut down.
Make sure that your positives and negatives are lined up correctly. This happened to me during my latest install and the problem was I had one positive speaker wire plugged into a negative speaker terminal. This switches the amp on after a few seconds and then back to protect mode once it detects a faulty speaker wire. Hope this helps!
All full-range loudspeakers are fitted with a self-resetting
poly switch that protects the high-frequency driver from
damage caused by excessive power.
If a loudspeaker cabinet loses high-frequency output, immediately
remove power from the unit and wait for two to three
minutes. They should allow the poly switch to reset. Reapply
power and check the performance of the high-frequency
driver before continuing with the power reduced to a
level that does not cause the poly switch to interrupt the signal.
On the SW115V/SW118V/SW218V sub woofer, the Poly
Switch protects the woofer and a similar routine should be
followed if its output is lost.
The protection mode is often switched on when an overload has/is happened/happening. This is caused more often than not by faulty speaker wiring or problems. It sounds to me like IC502 might well be the cause, or perhaps a faulty relay if it uses one. But IC's are often to blame, this one might even control the protect mode!
The numbers of the transistors thay you need to replaced are on the transistor themselfs. Just take out the bad transistors and get the numbers that you need. I ALWAYS replace the output, driver and bias control transistor myself. One thing to keep in mind, if the number on the transistor starts with "A or B or C or D or K" you need to add "2S" in front of that number when you order it. Now that this problem has repeated itself, double check your wire and speaker. They can cause this problem.
No, this amp is not a heavy power consumer- matter of fact it takes very little power to run.Maybe you should check the fuses on the amp to see if they are what is recommended.Also check your fuse kit to your amp- your fuse might not be big enough.If neither works take it back where u got it.
