Washing machine When I turn my maytag on, it will not stop at the correct water level. It will ot shut off by itself. It overflows. I replaced the timer. Still the same thing. Replaced hose attached to water level. It shuts itself off when it is filling and I pull plug. It will spin out but will not agitate. It comes to an abrupt halt after it spins. Do I have more than 1 problem? Is the spin bearing trying to seize? I really need advice. I'm a do-it-yourself person and I can't find any solutions. Please help!

The water level problem has almost got to be a bad pressure switch (the part the little hose attaches to, usually seperate from the control board) as far as an abrupt stop to the spin, usually machines have a brake to them so they stop faster. If it will not agitate, check the plastic pulley on the bottom. It should slide upwards and engage a set of teeth when it spins one direction, and downwards when it spins the other way. If it is this pulley, they make a repair kit for it for around 30 bucks. Good Luck!

Water will not turn off

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Water Inlet Valve If the washer is overflowing and power is shut off to the washer, the water inlet valve has failed. Replace it.
Pressure Switch If the washer is overflowing the pressure switch might be defective. The pressure switch is attached to a small tube which is attached to the outer wash tub. As the water level rises the air pressure in the tube increases, once the set water level is reached the pressure switch turns off power to the water inlet valve. Check to be sure the air tube to the pressure switch is clear before replacing the switch.

Low Water Pressure from House Supply If the washer is overflowing the water pressure to the water inlet valve might be too low. The water inlet valve requires a minimum of 20 psi to shut off properly. If the pressure is lower, the valve may not close fully when the power is shut off. This results in the valve leaking water into the washer and causing it to overflow.

Maytag legacy washer

The pressure switch, also called the water level switch, is what control the amount of water goes in the machine, If your machine is constantly filling to the overflow point, then that is your problem. Now, if water is going in and the level is staying the same then your machine drain line is lower than the pump and your siphoning out the water as it goes in. Pull the drain up a little a that should fix the problem.

My maytag washer is overflowing and won't go into

Hello there and welcome to fixya
This is a fairly common problems on these and other machines
Water-inlet valve A defect in the water-inlet valve may mean that it's no longer able to shut off completely when the electricity has been turned off to it. If this occurs, the valve may leak and drip water into the clothes tub. In time, the water may accumulate substantially. If this happens, you need to replace the valve. Water-level switch A defect--or an obstruction--in the water-level switch may mean that it can't tell the water to shut off. So the machine overflows. This switch senses the water level in the clothes tub. It's usually a diaphragm device with a small, clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level in the tub increases, the pressure on the air in the tube increases. When the pressure reaches a certain level, it activates the switch, shuts off the water, and signals the timer to begin the agitate cycle. You can either clear any obstruction in the tube or replace the water-level switch.
Please feel; free to post me back any comments on repair help or testing and removal ian installation if needed ill be glad to help you ok

Started a load of clothes turn on the washer and it overflowed wiyh water making a huge mess. the washer is about 10 years old. What's wrong?

If the water will not shut off when the machine is stopped you need to replace the valve assembly. It is an easy job, as the assembly is accessed from the rear.

If the water will shut off, then the problem is in your pressure system or timer. Check the air tube, and if that is ok, your problem is likely the water level pressure switch.

My maytag topload washer overfilled,

It isn't a sensor problem, it sounds more like your water level tube has pulled loose. This is attached to the outer drum itself. You can see it when you remove your front cover to the right of the outer tub. This tube uses the pressure generated from your tub water level to push air up to your water level selector, which has a rubber membrane that flexes and closes 2 contacts as the water level makes the rubber expand. If that tube is off, the water will just keep running.

Washer overflowed while filling for wash cycle.

A quick test to split up your possible trouble makers:
Let the washing machine fill with water and when the washer is about 1/2 full of water unplug the washers power cord from the wall outlet. If the water keeps flowing into the washing machine with the power cord pulled the fill valve ( where the hot and cold hoses are attached to your washer ) has mechanically stuck open and will have to be replaced. If the water shuts off when you remove it's power cord from the wall outlet, try plugging the washer in and out a couple more times and if the water stops each time the fill valve indicates as being good = on to the next trouble makers.
The water level control is responsible for shutting off the power to the fill valve and redirects the power to the timer to start the washing machine running once the correct water level has occurred. The WLC itself could be bad. The WLC uses a hose that the water level pushes air into to tell the WLC what the water level is inside the washing machine...the hose could be pinched, fallen off of the tub spout, has a pin hole, clogged up with calcium or soap curd and the WLC cannot "sense" or "tell" what is happening inside the washer.

Maytag performa

does the water overflow from the waser. also try and fill the washer up with water and when you feel it should be filled to capacity shut the water off to the washer. and turn off the power. After you have done that turn the water back on and turn the power back on to the washer if the water stops running it could be your water valve and is easily replaced. if the water continues to run it could be the pressure switch (water level switch) or it could be a hole in the pressure switch hose.

Washing Machine won't stop filling up

Try resetting your water level control. If that doesn't help then set the water level control to the lowest setting and observe if level exceeds that setting. If so, you may possibly have a faulty water level control, or an obstruction in the air dome or water level control hose. This can be a tricky 1 to diagnose for a novice.
