Car stereo problem

I have a jensen cd4610 that I was trying to install in my 87 pymoth caravell. The yellow wire touched the metal frame inside the dash and sparked and now the player doesnt work. It is not the cd player though because right after that i hooked it up in another car and it works perfect. For some reason it does not turn on in this car all it does when you turn the car on a little red light on the cd player turns on indicating it has power. I replaced the fuse behind the cd player and on the left of the cd player by all the other fuses just to make sure but still it doesnt want to turn on. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Is there a possibility of frying the wire itself?

Blown channels maby ! Alot of people dont know how easy it is to change blow channels. Just open top, look for two circuts next to each other. Go to an elect. store and pay 8 bucks each for new ones and solder in.

On some chrystlers they had it as soon as 1985 :-)

bolth are right, there is a blown fuse, or a blown fuseable link, you could also find a +12v Const Wire to use from the fusebox. (A wire with +12v when the key is off)

I have an 1991 Dodge Dakota i had that same problem there is a short from the CD Player to the fuse block. if you jump the fuse straight form the CD player power cord with a new wire and wrap it around the power side of the fuse and stick it in the fuse hole. if your CD player has a fuse in it already you can hook it up sraight to the battery, but if you blow a fuse you have to take apart the dash to replace the fuse in the back of the CD player. i hope this makes sense and i hope helped you at all.

If you hook up the red and yellow wires, it does not delete all your settings, the stereo stays on all the time, and yes, check the courtesy box under the hood, it should be the fuse called interior lights or dome lights, something like that

You can also get a voltage meter/tester and make sure you have current to the wires. Just ground it, then touch it to the wire, if it moves/lights then you have power. If not, you've probably got a blown fuse someplace.

Im not sure if its just newer cars only or most cars but some have whats called a courtesy fuse probley located under your hood. check that fuse. easiest way to locate that fuse is just by calling plymouth and ask, another way to check to make sure if your cd player works in that car is to connect your yellow constant wire with your red power wire and see if the player works if so you could probley leave it like that but when you turn off your car you would lose all your settings and such like the time setting therefore it is not recomended, give it a try good luck

Car stereo

if u got an amplifier, make sure u replace the fuse with a higher amp fuse, If the face for the detatchable deck got some kinda liquid, use compressed air to clean it a little bit, make sure alternator is charging and if ur car is not running then make it run to keep the battery chargin, :)

By no means is this a solution, only a comment - Internal Amplifier is bad. Check your wiring before installing another unit.

check for power on both the red and yellow wires with the key on. If both have power either the radio needs a reset or the radio is defective..
