I recently bought and had installed a used DEH 1400 deck in my car. The radio works fine, but whenever I put a CD in, it won't play it and displays "ERROR 12." The previous owner (a friend) said they had not had any problems with the deck. Is this something that can be fixed?
In the manual it says that error 12 could be scrached disc or dirty disc the action it says to take is to clean or replace the disc(s). the last thing error 12 could mean is mechanical error, actions for that is to turn your key to the off position and wait for the power to turn off and when it does turn it back on and see if it works, if none of these work then i suggest that your player needs replacing. hope this works for you

Are these CDs that you burned yourself? Older CD players won't recognize the audio file format of this kind of recording, only the established file format that typical retail CDs have used for years. In recent years, CD players have been developed to recognize more file types than just the old format; but with an older player like you have in your car, it wouldn't recognize what you were trying to play, as if you put a DVD in. It balks, and spits it out. You can burn CDs with the correct file format, you just need the appropriate software or file translator.
Please verify voltage at the constant (Yellow) wire With the ignition OFF Then Turn the Key to ACC and verify voltage on the RED wire. Double check the ground to chassis metal.
The radio should power on at this point if both power wires show 10-14.4VDC If not - your radio needs repair.
remove the trim plate(thin plastic strip around your deck) you will see on the center of each side slots for two thin deck keys these always come with a new deck. you you dont have them ask a friend who has recently bought a deck(any make should be fine) or go to your local best buy and ask for a set MAKE SURE YOU ASK FOR THEM FOR FREE unless the installer you asked has purchased his own universal keys they will give you them.
Its dirty, try a disc cleaner, (brushes not solution) and if that does not work, its time to replace, (unless the radio is all ya want). ALSO- if you are trying to play burnt discs, (cd-r, mp3 discs etc) than that could be the issue as not all indash cd players support non store bought cds
There is a plug on the back called an IP-BUS. You should be able to hook the ipod directly up to that with a simple homemade adapter. I built one for mine and it works fine.
how can it solved?? My old mp3's work perfect, now i made a new mp3 cd on the 700 MB space, but it doesnt work anymore.. i get ERROR 23 on my display.. what to do??
I had a simular problem ,the only thing you might try is a cd cleaner disk that has a little brush on it. might be a dust build up on the optical eye.
or it just worn out. the optical eye in my opion is sensitive and hitting big bumps with a cd playing might throw it out of whack...they can make like a little bluetooth or cartridge that holds all of any music cd or 30 cds....it would be pure electronics...but i guess it compares to oil co. that wont put out the electric car..jobs and money is what its about.
you get my point.
