Question about Dell 924 All-in-One InkJet Printer
"Clear the carrier jam and then press > to continue". This is what is read on the printer when I press power. above the tray where the prints come out and from right near what appears to be below the cartridges are three strips of plastic with small metallic lines at the end. From what I have read thus far on this site I believe they may be timing strips but then again I am no expert and could be way off. Anyhow, this printer is fairly new and has hardly been used at all since its purchase from dell a year ago. (it is a dell all in one photo inkjet 924). I am thinking the strips somehow connect back in somehow but at the risk of messing things up further I am hesistant to attempt fixing it on my own. Any help appreciated.
A long narrow filmlike strip came off my printer while i was changing the ink. i don't know where it came out from. printer message reads 'clear the carrier jam and then press > to continue'.
can anyone help?

I had the same problem in the same printer model. After taking the printer apart I found the culprit to be a light sensor covered with paper dust. The solution was also rather simple: Spray generous amounts of air from a compressed air can (obtainable at any office suply store, STAPLES, OFFICE DEPOT) on the electronics located in the back part of the printer. To be able to reach that part of the printer, you'll have to remove the paper holder and guides. This is done by simply pressing on the sides of the holder, where it pivots, and the stubs should get out of the holes. The sensor is located to the left of center. Pushing the air can long-slim tube in that area and spraying as much air as possible should be enough to dislodge the paper dust covering the sensor. I hope this help. It helped me! :)
