Corrupted data since a few days, my camera indicates corrupted data to some of my pictures. I tried to format my scandisk card 512k, but half of my pictures get corrupted. I heard that it is possible to fix this problem by removing and connecting again the internal battery. Is is a reliable fix? Is there anyone who knows where this internal battery is? Thanks Spinhole

Canon S400 IXUS 400 ? The fix for ?memory card errors? The only tool you need is a small ?jewellers? cross head screwdriver. the procedure is not difficult but you need to proceed with care on a well-illuminated, flat, plain surface. Switch off then remove the rechargeable main battery and the memory card. Now remove all the small screws around the casing. These screws are of different lengths and it is important to lay them out in a logical manner so that later you can replace them correctly. If you use a teatowel to take it apart on the screws won?t roll away. Note Do not remove the main rechargeable battery release catch. It's a MAJOR job to put it back together. Carefully separate the halves of the casing. The lithium battery is at the front under the bottom right hand corner of the copper coloured flexible shield. The internal disk-shaped 3-volt lithium battery is about 6mm across. Be careful to disassemble the bare minimum necessary. If you see a spring popping up, you are disassembling too much. Remove this battery, taking care not to touch the side and bottom simultaneously with a metal implement. After about ten minutes, replace the 3-volt battery. Reassemble the metal case taking care that the sliding switch for the take/review function is correctly located. The 2 halves of the case fit perfectly, if you can see any gaps you need to just check the overlapping metal plates are fitting together properly, you don?t need to force anything. Be sure that the rubber jack socket cover - is seated properly whilst you reattach the rear part of the case. Replace the main rechargeable battery and the memory card. You will have to reset the time and date data as they are deleted when the 3-volt battery is removed. You may find the video replay system has to be reset If you don?t get the date/time screen after switching back on you have not left the lithium battery out long enough. You should find most user settings and, the last image file number are kept. Too scared to try this? You can leave the main battery out of the camera for at least a month and the small Lithium will run down and eventually reset itself. By the way Canon know about this fault and should fix it for free but the notice is well hidden on their site and if you don?t know about the issue they will bill you for the ?repair?
