I have a Sony KP-53V85 Rear Video Projector TV. While watching the tv it appeared to shut off. It then would not turn back on. Now the only thing that appears to work on it is the timer/standby lite...

Hello.

It's the problem of overheating in the power supply board of the TV.on the power supply board of the tv there are few capacitors and IC.any of this ic is got short or may be weak.so due to this when you start the TV the current passes from electric outlet to the power supply board of TV.but when the current passes from that weak/faulty part at that time current gets stopped or slow and the board overheats and TV shuts off. this is a common problem faced by many other users too.the possible option to solve this issue is to check the power supply board by a meter and continuity tester and replace the faulty component on the board which is short due to which power supply board is getting overheated.its bit technical job but yes its not at all a costly repair to do or get it done by the technician. for required parts it can be easily available from local electronic hardware shop. if otherwise, power supply board is dead, u know basic electronics' and soldering? Most of the times, the power supply board just have dead leakages gases capacitors. These capacitors always bulges up on it top,or puff up on it top.Replaced these gases leakages capacitors will get your TV power stable, and work again.Or tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.
Hope this will help to solving the problem...

I have a sony KP-51HW40 and when i turn it on about 5 minutes later it shuts it off.

If the TV works fine during the 5 minutes its on then your power supply in the tv is heating up and shutting off. If you have some mechanical knowledge you can buy another power supply from Ebay for around 35.00 and replace it. will require some soldering

I have a Sony big screen TV with a convergence problem. Replaced ICs checked all resisters and fuses and all checked good. Replaced board with another board and tried a different power supply. What is...

There are many reasons....bad parts, faulty installation, shorted soldering, etc...

Did you get instructions or are you winging it? If you got a complete kit from sites like www.TvRepairKits.com - go back to their site and ask for help. There support is part of the kit.

Green lines developing about every 6 inches going across horizontally with slight arch on end sony projection tv KP57WS500

This is convergence out ICs failure and will be replaced for correct picture in TV.
Let me know if you can solder parts in circuit board of TV with necessary tools to provide you IC number and store address, or call local TV tech for fix if you are not comfortable with TV repair.
Thanks.

TV won't turn on

There's a small diode on the power supply board that causes this. Its identifiable by its purple stripe. You will need the correct type of diode to fix this properly. The diode supplies the standby voltage to the system control circuit, so when it fails, the TV will never come on.
