Question about Toshiba 27A62 27" TV

1 Answer

TV won't turn on immediately

When we turn out TV on when it's cold, the TV will not immediately come on. Instead it makes an intermittent clicking noise and the red LED flashes at each click. Eventually the TV comes on, and once it's on, operates normally. If we turn the TV off, then back on before it's had a chance to cool completely, it comes on immediately. This problem seems to worsen each day in that the TV takes longer to come on. What is the problem and is it easily/inexpensively repairable or should we just buy a new one? Thank you for any help you can provide. This is driving us crazy!

Right now it should not be expensive to repair, the symptoms point to loose solder conection and it has gradually become worst,if you take the set to the shop it should cost less. What happens is the 10 legs the vertical ic has get overheated and loose,to prove this tap on the side of the set just to see if it reacts,it should also be check for other overheated areas while in service. If the quality of the picture is good then is worh repairing.

TV won't turn on. flashes a series of 5 red lights instead of turning green

Usually Sony and LG Blinking Codes are the same. Here is what I have.
  • Unit is dead, No blinks - Problem in the standby power section. Might check fuse,
  • Continuous blink once a second, no pausing - No reply from the jungle IC301 (data bus is busy, shorted to ground, or held high), IK video path is defective.
  • One blink - not used for the self-diagnosis
  • Two blinks - B+ over current protection (OCP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of any of the circuits.
  • Three blinks - B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power supply circuit,
  • Four blinks - No vertical Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single horizontal line then the video signal muted.
  • Five blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.
  • Six blinks - No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking self-diagnosis function immediately.
  • Seven blinks - High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.
  • Eight blinks - Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code.
  • Nine blinks - Panel Module Error or Thermal Error. If it is intermittent 9 blinks, meaning sometimes the TV comes on and other times you get flashing Make sure the regulator is -12 or -13 (negitive).
  • Ten blinks - Check Q8014 and Q8013 for shorts, leakage, or bad solder connections on the " D" board. If the transistors are bad, check R8051 and IC8005, also on the "D" board.

Panasonic CT-36HX42F I turn it on and then, turns off

It seems that the electrical relay's, it getting completed is not able to create the high voltage required for proper display. Hence on switching it on, the power LED will immediately light up but since the circuit is not completed it switches to standby and then off. Get the relays replaced and make sure you connect the main power chord to a 15 Ampere rating wiring usually the line meant for A/c and hot water Geyser(called as high power line)..........sodeep

RCA model# F26071ES television set clicks on, then immediately off when using power button on TV or by using remote.

This should help you.. use the TV button on the remote instead of the power button. If the TV is working properly and the buttons aren't damaged this should do it.
I know mine clicks off as well.. unless I use the TV button to turn it on.

Sony KP-65WS500 65 in.

Check your CRT boards on the end of the tubes for burn spots, and burnt components, check the resistors to make sure they are not shorted, burnt, and they read the correct resistance. Check the diodes to make sure they conduct in one direction only and are not shorted or open.

Our 37" in the past

It sounds like the main power supply board. If you can hear the relay click but no other response from the TV, it would be a good bet to start there.

I just replied to a similar problem on the same model TV. If the relay contacts are no good or if there is poor soldering on the main board, you'll get this symptom. Although a bad set of relay contacts aren't out of the question, I think it's more likely that there are cold solder joints on the board. If this is a relatively new TV and used to work fine, the thermal cycling when the TV was operating might have been enough to cause intermittent contact with the solder joints. If you're up to it, consider resoldering the main board especially near the relay section. Let me know what happens. Please rate accordingly.

TV won' turn on

Solder, solder, solder! Shut down circuits protect crts to avoid permanent damage. If any of the deflection circuits are defective, or intermittent, shut down occurs. I have not only seen bad solder on deflection circuits, especially vertical, but also intermittent connections on the yokes themselves. I've also seen shorted convergence ics cause shut down. Don't forget solder connections in the power supply.
