    Hi Silverblade,

Unfortunately all I know about the machine is that it is a presario f600 laptop for the UK market.
What is happening, or should I say, not happening is that it won't turn on. He first thought it must be the battery but after putting it solely on the mains it still won't turn on. It just whirs for awhile then goes off.
He's took it somewhere local & they reckoned it sounded like the motherboard had gone but reckoned it would cost about £200!!!
I'm trying to find out the type of board for it to see if I can see one on ebay maybe........

I would like to confirm the model number again it's a Presario F600 right? The reason for asking is I have checked the HP-Compaq website for US and UK and there are F500 and F700 series only.

I think I have the same laptop that also needs a motherboard. The Presario F600 also had a m/n of F572US found on the label with serial. Looking on the Compaq site I found the motherboard is the same as for the F500 notebooks which is 442875-001. Link is at: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01095493.pdf This number is also found under the memory chips on most Compaq/Hp Laptops. Simply open memory cover and remove the memory chips and there you will find the Motherboard replacement number. Good Luck!

Hp presario f600 boots and runs but screen wont cut on

Well if you are sure the computer is running, then you could have a bad inverter, take a flashlight and shine it on the screen, if you see the icons and computer booting, then you have a bad inverter, go on amazon and order another LCD. also if you have a desk top monitor, connect the monitor to your laptop, then boot up your laptop, hold down the "FN" (function) button and press "F4", you should see everything on your desktop monitor. Good luck.

What size is a compaq presario f600 hard drive?

I cannot find a model F600 laptop on HP's website, (they bought Compaq years ago and keep all their records.) Here is link. You can see they list only F500 and F700 laptops... Perhaps yours is not from USA ? what country did you purchase it in ?
Some General Statements
The hard drives can be different sizes....depending on what was ordered. I believe if you input your serial number into their support website, that it will provide you with the original equipment specs.
This would also tell you if it is SATA or EIDE/PATA, although any laptop made in the last 5 years is going to likely be SATA.

Compaq Presario 2700US Notebook PC will not power up. Green power light is on

1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only. If the computer turns on, then the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
2. Make sure the power adapter is not defective. Test the output voltage of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop.
3. Make sure the DC jack is not loose or broken. A loose DC jack will need to be re-soldered. A broken one will need to be replaced.
4. If you have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work.
5. The power button could be bad
.
6. The motherboard could be defective & needs to be replaced

My laptop is dead.hard disc ok,ram ok,battery ok

Hi,
sounds like you need to replace the motherboard. It maybe cheaper to buy another laptop. Go to Compaq website and inquire on their discussion forums. Check out the motherboard price on HP and ebay. Google is your friend!
Cheers,
Steve
PS You could dismantle the unit and see if their is any visible damage, but motherboards tend to be difficult to repair.

Compaq presario f600 internet not working. It's wi-fi doesn't work and it doesn't work even when plugging it in straight to the cable.

Ok. I have this exact same laptop and the exact same issue. The loss of hte wireless for this model = this laptop IS GOING TO FAIL. HP WILL NOT HELP YOU.
Go to hplies.com and you will see almost 2,000 users with the same issue. The problem lies with the nVIDIA GFX chip on the motherboard. THE ISSUE IS UNREPAIRABLE. Any repairs will force the laptop to fail again.

This issue has actually landed me in small claims court where I am suing for hte full cost of this laptop because not only is hte laptop defective, nVIDIA admitted it, and HP covered it up.

Join us at hplies.com and we will give you the know how to get this issue fixed/your $ back. We even have links to all of the information!
