Keyboard and mouse work only intermittently

I just bought a keyboard a few weeks ago, plugged it into my imac G3 and it worked fine. Now sometimes the mouse doesn't work, sometimes the keyboard doesn't work, and sometimes they both stop working. I plugged in my old keyboard and it worked fine. Do I have a defective keyboard?

Yeah , I've recently experiencing a similar problem, where for no apparent reason my optical mouse just stops working and then after a couple of seconds it back to being normal. The only thing with this is that it so random and intermittent its difficult to know when its about to happen. Worse still it does it whether its connected to USB or PS/2.

When I plug in the usb for Dynex Keyboard, it doesn't work.

Sounds like you've got a bad keyboard.

You should contact Dynex direct for in-warranty replacement.

You can reach them here.

A few weeks ago I bought an iMac, I've been using my LX6 without any issues and this morning it quit, cursor won't move and it's a fairly new unit. Changed batteries, hit the reset button and on/off. ...

open mouse folder inside control panel and check everything in all tabs.... definitely you have to work with keyboard to reach there , use tab and alt buttons to choose option,to check in acheckbox you have to press the alphabet which is underlined in a sentence near checkbox.

Gateway cordless mouse intermittent connection model MR-0610T ,,, came as a set with keyboard. keyboard connects fine, no problems, but mouse has to continually be reset after a few commands/minutes.

I was having the same problem then I ran across something on the Gateway sight saying to hold the connect button on the transmitter for 5 seconds, then the connect button on the mouse for 5 seconds. I just did this about 5 minutes ago but it seems to have fixed the problem.

Keyboard and Mouse don't work anymore

Hi, Sorry you are having problems,
Well Marcelo, the first thing to do in a situation like this is to restart your Mac or even better, shut down and restart. So, if you have done this, and still the keyboard and mouse don't respond, and, as you have mentioned, you have tried the other USB ports on the back of the Mac, it sounds like somehow, unexpectedly, your iMac motherboard got a shock of some kind and it killed the USB controller....
Last thing to try is to unplug the iMac completely of everything and let it sit for 10 minutes and then plug just the keyboard and mouse back in and try to see if that does the trick..
Otherwise, Apple will cover this if it is still under warranty.
Good Luck.

Keyboard intermittent

There might be a problem with the keyboards PS2 port. You can bypass the PS2 port all together by buying a PS2 Y-adapter to usb port. This Y adapter will allow you to plug your PS2 mouse & keyboard into it and than you plug the other end into a free usb port. You do not have to plug the PS2 mouse in if you do not want to. Just plug in the keyboard. If your keyboard functions than there is a prolem with the keyboard's PS2 port. The PS2 Y-adapter to USB runs about $12.00 to $15.00. You can find one at Wallmart.
