Usually product keys also have bar codes. Some place like Best Buy should have a barcode scanner that can read the barcode and give you your product key from the barcode. For Windows
if your having a problem this may help.

You will need to have as much of the following information as possible ready for when you speak to them:
Customer ID
Product Type
Serial Number / Date Code / Dated Proof of Purchase.
Ideally have the barcode scanner with you while on the phone so that if they ask you to check for specific serial numbers or codes you have it readily available.

This is a setting issue of your barcode scanner, the only way to solved the issue is to find the manual and look for the settings that are most likely what you need to display and send data.
