Question about Samsung HCM4216W 42" Rear Projection Television
Greetings Experts, Just this past weekend I had my STK chips (blue and red convergence) replaced. The color is fine but now the picture quality has degraded. There are these faint diagnol lines that start from the upper left hand corner and continue down to the lower right hand corner. The repairman who installed my chips didn't seem to know what he was doing when it came to adjusting the blue convergence... it took him an hour and a half to get the blue convergence right (and he pulled a manual after the 1st hour of trying). He told me the lines were b/c of the cable sigle, but my DVD's have the same poor quality so it can't be the cable signal. The set is only 4 y.o. and it p.o.'s me that I just spent $500 on convergence problems and now I have crappy picture quality. What do you pros opine on my situation? I ordered the manual b/c I am frustrated. Any advice would be very much appreciated.. thanks fellas. Gus
Hi, I get black lines when I use 480p with my cable box. When I use 1080i, i get no black lines. can this be your problem? When I use a dvd, I dont get any lines at 480p. Did you try to to correct convergence yourself? Through user settings and service menu? Gus, Where did you get service manual from for tv?

Sorry to tell you gus, if you paid 500 bucks for convergence IC's you got #### and didnt get kissed. A repair like this should not go much over 250 to 300 bucks.

well excuse me! Are they faint white lines? Because if they are, the RGB screens are most likly too high.
Ok No problem as I didnt know you were a fellow NY er. I used to live in Kew Gardens queens. Had a shop in New Hyde Park. If I were you I would call the tech back and tell him the vertical size is misadjusted and the RGB screens are slightly to high as thats what it would look like if these things were not adjusted right. Its not a good Idea for a untrained person in the field of electronics to be messing around in this High Voltage circuir. So tell them the three screen control are too high and the vertical height is not ajusted properly. If they do not wanrt to come back out, report them to the consumer affairs, as they are much worse on shops then they used to be. and if this shop is unlicesnced then its a good thing you would be doing.

Usually answered in minutes!
Thanks Techman, but I live in NYC and everything is ###@## and "you don't get kissed". But how about giving some USEFUL info. I didn't post for people to say how much I got screwed... I just want an honest answer to my problem unlike the company who repaired my TV this past weekend. USEFUL comments are welcome.
Didn't mean to make it sound personal techman. Of all the repair shops I called this one was the cheapest, believe it or not. Some didn't even want to give estimates over the phone-- I suppose that's their way of shafting you even more. At any rate, thanks.
They are faint, not really white, and it sort of makes the picture quality "fuzzy" like. The thing is they are not visible when I first turn the tv on. Then after a few minutes the lines become visible.
If by the RGB screen you mean a screen that looks like a grid, yes the tech messed around with it and had no idea of what he was doing, or so it seemed. In addition to the line problem, part of the bottom part of the picture is cut off, e.g. during football games I can only see half of the score ticker at the bottom of the screen.
I appreciate your advice. Also, I am not a tech, so if it's not much trouble, could you "dummy it down" for me... Thanks again.

Thanks Techman. The same service man is coming this Friday. I'll suggest to him your advice. Hopefully he won't feel that his manhood is offended and follow it. In the event that he doesn't want to heed it, what should I look for? Thanks again for your advice, and I'll keep you posted on developments. Peace.
