My new laptop doesn't work

I just bought a new laptop Samsung NP R780, it did work when it was tested; after I brought it back home, tried wireless network, it connected for a few minutes, but the internet didn't work at all; then the wireless disconnected itself, and couldn't connect again. I've checked the route and moderm, everything was fine. And another laptop works perfectly. What shouldIdo? Thanks

I did input the wireless key but no webpages came up at although the wireless was connected. I was told by BT that my network card gone faulty and needs to replace. Then I took the laptop to PCworld today, they did something, when I came back to check and I found out my laptop can't even find any wireless signal! So the wireless doesn't work at all! Where else can I go? An IT professional has just been and he can't do anything about it only suggested me to get a longer cable for the internet, there is no hope to use wireless on my laptop!

To connectyour computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh networklist, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connectto your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Keybefore allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This NetworkKey is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is used toconfigure the Wireless Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way tosetup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrasethat was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router.http://www.fixya.com/support/r5270415-network_password_network_address

    CONTINUAL DISCONNECTION OF WIRELESS CONNECTION
There are a few things that can cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router.
    1. Weak signal strength, check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move the wireless router away from brick or concrete walls and if possible locate the wireless router higher up.
    2. Have you secured your wireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? i.e. change the default password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID, and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC address filtering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s to connect to your wireless router.
    3. You could be getting interference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arc welders, washing machines etc. If so, the power supply to the wireless routers and computers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, better still connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply).
    4. Check the channels of the wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcast channel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that is currently used but has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize interference with your wireless router from other wireless routers and access points in your area.

Things That Affect Wireless Router Signals
    1. Many wireless routers are using the same wireless channel. Many manufacturers choose channel 6 as the default.
    2. Analogue video senders used to send audio and video to other TVs in the home.
    3. Microwave ovens emit interference in the 2.4GHz band.
    4. Wireless speakers and console controllers can cause interference with the wireless router.
    5. Bluetooth devices, newer Bluetooth devices can jump to different frequencies if there is a connection problem.
    6. Power cables located near the wireless router can cause drop outs and speed reduction.
    7. Fish tanks will cause massive Wi-Fi shadow on the other side of the tank from the wireless router.
    8. Depending upon the location of large mirrors will reflect wireless signal away your computer.
    9. Building materials will block wireless signals such as plasterboards with metal foil, reinforced concrete walls and floors. Also objects near the wireless router such as metal filing cabinets and other electrical appliances.
    10. Blinking Christmas lights can reduce Wi-Fi performance by 25% when it is close to the wireless router.

SOURCE: Help me with IBM A21M Wireless problem.

Make sure that there are NO electrical devices between you and the wireless router. Some electrical devices will mess your signal up.
(cordless phones are known to mess with them) too.
Microwaves interfere with the signal from your router. Interference means a low quality signal.
The following steps help you troubleshoot a bad wireless connection. Stop following the steps when the connection problem is solved:
1. Refresh the wireless connection that is giving you trouble.
2. Temporarily disable the firewall or Internet security software on the computer that is having connection troubles.
3. Open the wireless connection manager and make sure that the SSID is correct. Also make sure that encryption settings and keys match the settings in your WAP (Wireless Access Point).
4. Restart DHCP (Dynamic Host Control Protocol) on your WAP; if necessary reboot the WAP.
5. If the troublesome Wi-Fi adapter is removable - such as a USB, cardbus, or Ethernet bridge adapter - remove or disconnect it and disconnect any power cords. Then reconnect the device.
6. Right-click the My Computer icon in the Windows Start menu and choose Properties.
7. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button (see Figure 1).
8. In the Device Manager window, click the plus-sign next to Network Adapters (see Figure 2).
If you see a yellow exclamation mark next to the name of the adapter, something is wrong. Right-click it and choose Uninstall, restart Windows, and then re-install the driver software as described in the manufacturer's instructions.

SOURCE: Keep losing internet connection

Recommendation: If you can switch from the 3rd party wireless utility to the Windows utility. There should be a check box under the properties that says, "Let Windows manage my connection." Also turn off any power management that stops your drives, suspends the machine, etc. When doing WEP, use the actual key, not your password. i.e. the one that looks like "aaff996753bc" not "rosebud".

Reason: Windows wireless starts before you even log in and loads as a service, it runs whether your logged in or not, sleep mode, etc. 3rd party utilities...especially my personal bane of all wireless devices "Netgear" load as applications. That means they don't initialize until after log in and they can be suspended completely or prioritized by power management and resource management utilities when the machine is idle. As for the key thing... WEP translation with Linksys especially can be a little funny with some wireless so I use the key itself which always works.

Samsung r40 reset to factory settings

hello there Start by pressing F4 when the BIOS "Samsung" screen is showing. This will allow you to restore the original operating system from the recovery partition, if is there. (Also try the other Fn keys - F6 and F8 may do something).

Otherwise you will need to beg, borrow or buy an XP Home installation CD and use that for a new installation. You can use the Samsung key on the bottom to activate it. You can get the R40 drivers from SamsungPC.

I have a samsung r710 laptop which i have had for a few years. I started to have problems with the battery charge not lasting long which got worse until it wouldn't charge at all. The battery went to...

Here below are possible causes and troubleshooting steps of laptop that can't power on, hope it may help:
Possible causes:

1. AC adapter failure.
2. Power jack failure.
3. Motherboard failure.

Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solutions:
1. Test the AC adapter with a digital multimeter. It's possible that you have a failed AC adapter. If you don't have a multimeter, test your laptop with another known good AC adapter.

2.It's possible that power jack (socket where you plug the AC adapter) is broken. Remove the motherboard and take a closer look at the power jack. In some cases you can fix the jack by resoldering it on the motherboard. In other cases you have to replace the jack with a new one. Using a multimeter, test if the power goes to the motherboard through the jack.

3. If replacing the AC power adapter and jack on the motherboard doesn't help, most likely you have a bad motherboard. Replace the motherboard.

Samsung n145 will not power up

Related to a Samsung Np-n145 Notebook PC:

Plug the laptop into power for 24 hours. See if the Battery charges up.

Next test, or have tested, the AC adapter (Charger) See if it is putting out 19 Volts -> DC.
Know someone with a multimeter? I can guide you in testing.

AC adapter is good? Things go downhill rapidly here.
The next problem could be a DC Power Jack.

The DC Power jack is the jack on the laptop, that you plug the AC adapter into,

1) The DC Power jack may be broken
2) The solder joints holding it to the motherboard may be cracked. Poor connection to motherboard.

The DC Power jack can be replaced, or it's solder joints re-soldered.

DC Power jack proves to be okay?

Let's hope it's a bad AC adapter

I have Samsung NP-R505H laptop. My laptop won't

You say it isn't charging, but will it run off of AC power? If it isn't getting *ANY* AC power, then it might be the female end of the power jack on the laptop. If it will run on AC, the culprit is likely to be a battery that needs replaced.
