Question about USA Spec MERC99 6-Disc CD Changer

1 Answer

I just got the unit and when I plug all the wires in I get power and my car recognizes it. The problem I am having is that after I loaded one of the CD magazines into the unit the player tried to read the disc on tray 6. Now tray 6 is stuck and will not retract back into the disc magazine. I don't know how to get that disc tray back in so that I can eject the disc magazine.

Unplug all the cables, leave it out for several hours then replug it in and eject. This happen to me, I called 1-800 Mercedes and that's what they told me and it worked.

answering for USA cars only not exports, etc.\
GC is WJ jeeps, real name. WJ.02

I can see you didnt scan it first.
crank for 5 seconds and see if the scan tool tells you why it cut spark 99% of time it will
ours has 8 cop coils, 8 coils over plugs.
if all 8 are dead.
1: CKP or CMP sensors dead.
2: the PCM on this car , can cut spark if P0016
code for cam out of time.
they do that so you dont bend the head valves. over.
since you skipped the most important step, SCAN IT.
i cant work to the end, or solve this.

if you have spark for 3 seconds, and it dies after
that is the ASD dropping out, and is PCM command to do that, and the scans tell you why, there are 1 to 8
reasons why, (codes DTC) stored,
make sure the PCM IOD, fuse is not missing or bad
this is the PCM memory fuse, keep it working.

European Wiring harness not compatible with US bought Stereo

This is not as straightforward as you may think.

You can certainly buy a generic adapter harness which will plug into the European DIN harness and then provide you with the bare wire tails to patch into. You may even find one which plugs directly into the rear of your head unit without the need for patching.

But you'll find that your head unit still won't work properly as the US uses a different FM channel range to Europe (US frequencies are odd, e.g.102.7, Euro frequencies are even e.g.102.8). The channel spacing is also different.

The radio itself cannot be converted, but you may be able to buy an external converter. It won't be cheap, and the head unit display will still always show the wrong frequencies. Channel changing may have to be done directly on the adapter and not on the head unit as I don't think that the DEH-P3000 has any way to communicate a request for a channel change to any external device and this also means that radio channel presetting may be impractical/impossible.

Considering that the DEH-P3000 is an obsolete unit and nothing special to begin with you can buy a brand new Euro-spec head unit of equivalent quality for less than the cost of adapting your unit and it will work correctly without any awkward Heath Robinson adaptations.

Sell your Pioneer back to the USA where it belongs or bin it as it's useless over here.

Usa spec Ipod adapters usually interuppt factory wiring harness.... rca plug on Usa spec is usually for aux input (line level input)... USA spec is a good piece though provided its application is correct for your vehicle, look up your car on to be sure

Inoperable CD changer

Hi the alpine/merc/bmw cd changer all seam to suffer with the same problem, they say no disc, or no mag try firmly hitting the mag with the handle of a screw driver. the loadinga arm, tends to get stuck. you could try using some grease on the arms, and levers, white spray gease works best. but dont forget to cover the laser beforehand, you dont want grease on it :) Mark
