What's with this TV?

When I got this TV it originally had a fried deflection board and a cracked green picture tube. Once I powered it on the convergence was way off so I ran "autoconvergence" and it corrected the image... sort of. The TV powers on but still has a very weird convergence problem. Before saying "check the fuses" I have already checked them. On top of that the automatic convergence option is still there. I have ran it multiple times and it won't correct it. The convergence is perfect in the center of the screen but around the edges it is still way off. Is the convergence board busted? What do I need to check on the board?

I forgot about that service option. I got into the service menu and corrected the convergence problem. The TV was acting weird through the process but it worked. Thanks!

Auto convergence only adjusts so much---you need to see the way for your model to go into tech mode to fine adjust---about 4 versions of your set---

Google the model number to see if you can find instructions for advanced adjustments--not easy on this brand.

PTS electronics may have the information as they repair and rebuild these boards and I have got that info from them before for free.

Replace the Sanyo I.C. Chip on the convergence power supply board. Cost you about $5.00. You are getting stiffed for $600. It is not necessary to replace the whole board. Fact is they just repair/recycle the boards anyway. It's a racket. Any good TV Technician should do it for $100 and still make a killing. You can buy the part here.

Your symptom sounds like a damaged convergence IC, whick you have found to be true.

There are two and large IC’s that control the convergence in a big screen set. They are secured to a very large aluminum heat sink.

Along with the convergence IC’s there will also be some associated components that will need to be replaced as well. There are some resistors that are part of the convergence circuit that will be open and need to be replaced. Most likely these will appear charred in the center. If you have an Ohm Meter or a DVM, check all the resistors that are close to the IC’s and you should be looking for either ones that have opened or have changed values.

You will also want to replace the white heat sink2.gif compound that is on the heat sink2.gif, just scrape it off, then clean the surface with alcohol. Then apply a thin coating of fresh heat sink compound, if you do not do this important step the new IC's will not last long as the old compound will act as an insulator to the heat transfer.

I would suggest that you contact a service center in your area for a complete diagnosis and repair, as this type of repair can get a little tricky. But if you want to repair the set yourself, just remember to be careful. The capacitors and CRT’s can hold a charge and may shock you.

If one of the convergence IC’s are found to be bad, I would replace them both, if one has gone bad the other may go soon. I usually order my parts from Andrews Electronics in California, they will have the OEM components that you will need.
Their site is http://www.andrewselectronics.com/welcome.aspx
And their phone number is a 24-Hour Order Desk: (800) 274-4666
I recommend the phone order so you can talk to the person about the different types of IC’s that are available.

I would also advise that the convergence IC’s be OEM or better, just because they are cheap does not mean that they are a good deal. I have seen the cheap IC’s fail after a short time, even though they look exactly like the OEM IC’s. I think that the bottom line is that you will get what you pay for when it comes to the parts.

You can also try http://www.tvrepairkits.com/ , I have not tried them yet, but they do carry OEM or better parts.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

SOURCE: Convergenc problems w/ RCA HD52W59 HDTV

sorry but u replace the incorec part , the board which control the convergence voltage on and off is the deflection board , now this board is about $100 - 150 , or if u want to fix it , just solder the flyback , just go to radio shack and get a 25watt solder station and solder rosin , also check for bad fuse , this fuse it dont look like the others , this is a 1/2 watt 250 pico fuse , and is next to the flyback , look like small brow squer little box , there is 3 and the one that is bad is the one in the middle , this 3 pico fuses are togethere u cant miss then , good look

Testimonial: "Your solution was helpful, the fuseable link is open, but I'm not sure what you mean by "soldering the fly-back."

WS-65819 Shuts off

Yes, remove front speaker grill (pulls off) and inspection plate behind it.

There are 3 large circuit boards as you look from the front---signal to the right, power to the left and Deflection (vertical and Horizontal) in the middle.

What you want to look for is on the middle board any sign of GLYCOL which sometimes leaks from the picture tubes above it.

It is a clear liquid and even tiny amounts can short or stop the board from working; most damage should be in first 3 inches from front of the board----if you find any DO NOT TOUCH IT as it is toxic.

Glycol damage is not uncommon and the first thing you want to look for.

My RCA R52WH74 chassis # ITC222A wont turn on. The green power light comes on for about 10 seconds then shuts off. No picture, no sound. How do I fix it? Buying a new TV just isn't in out budget!

That model is famous for having issues with the deflection board failing. Replacing the deflection board should solve the issue. You can get replacement deflection board for the ITC222A chassis from www.tvrepairworld.com under the RCA circuit boards catagory.

Horizontal driver too hot, no eht, power suply is ok.

Hello

If horizontal output transistor gets over heated, the either LOT or Deflection Yoke may have some short in it. You just pull out the picture tube base card from the picture tube neck, and place it somwhere. so that it never gets in contact with any other circuit parts of the TV. Pull out the deflection yoke plugin and put the tv ON, and see whether it overheats now or not. If it overheats no also, LOT is defective, and should be replaced with a same type and number. If it does't overheat now. put the unpluged yoke connection, and switch it ON. If it gets overheats, there is some short in between the horizontal winding section inside the deflection yoke. Caution:- Never place the picture tube base board connected to it, while deflection yoke is disconnected. OK.

How to replace picture tube

Hello
Replacing 27" picture tube must be done very carefully as it will have bulky and care must be taken not to break it. You have to disassemble the internal circuit boards from the TV for that. Make sure to mark every pull out sockets whcih are connected to the circuit board as a rough drawing on a paper, otherwise you may be confused later. You just open the back cover of the Tv, some Samsung models may have locks also with them with fixing screws. Keep the set opened, do a close whatch tho its connections, and board positions. Most of them are pushed in to slots and can be pulled out easely.
Colour picture tubes are integrated with its deflection yoke, as company fittings. We can't replace them alone with an accuracy as they did, which needs sophisticated equipments. normally wires going to the deflection yoke are connected to the board with a socket. A four wire connection is common. Out of them, two is for Horizontal Deflection, and the others two are for vertical deflection. The deflection yoke fitted at the neck of the picture tube has internal windings for both.
Pull out and detach the deflection yoke connection from the board first. be carefull becuse, it may be a little tight to detach, and keep your hands so away from the neck or the present picture tube. If it breaks accidently, may be dangerous. Next look into more connections to be detached. There will ba a two wire connection that comes from the coil fitted around the picture tube, which is called degaussing coil. Pull out the neck board gently and causiously. Pull out all boards out and you have done the half job.
Unscrew the four mounting screws that fixes the picture tybe to front cabin. Gently pull it out from it, you must havav an another to assist you, since it is heavy. Place it somewhere on a blanket upside down.
Seperate the degaussing coil of this picture tube, make notice its connection position, and fit it to the new picture tube, where it will have this coil. It only have deflection coil, and purity magenets on its neck, permanantly fixed. Place this picture tube to the fromt cabin, after placing a smooth folded blanket or so to prevent it from any scratch, screw it to a gentle tight positon inorder to keep it there fixed. Never overtight that screws, as it mat brake the glass envelope of the tube.
Desolder the wire from the old picture tube, note the positions of them. It is best to cut it out from there very close to the soldering point, so that a little bit of wire with insulation be there. It will help you when reconecting wires to the new picture tube, as they are colour coded. Replace all the boards and wires disconnected later according the markings we have done. That is all. Ok

The tv makes a sizzling sound when you turn it on. No picture ever shows up and then it cuts back off.

You may have a bad Scanning Cap in the High Voltage Power supply, if so then check the neck of the picture tubes for cracks usually the green tube is affected by this. If one of these caps goes bad High voltage goes through the roof and cause a tube to crack at the neck. While turning on the set look for arching around the tubes, Also check the main deflection for burnt tracings around the HV scanning Capacitors, they are usually Square in shape and may be yellow or gray in color. IF the board is burnt then scraping the coating of the tracing and resoldering the pin to the board and then sealing it with rubber compound will usually work in this instant. Saving the time and money. This board can be sent for repair. as a new one is probably no longer Avaible.

Flat line on Toshiba tube tv

It could be the vertical output IC, but there may be other possible causes which include:

- bad solder contacts on deflection yoke connectors or dirty connector contacts (on the circuit board and / or on the picture tube neck)

- bad solder contacts on the vertical output IC or associated components (check for little cracks in the solder around the pins, these are so called "cold" or bad / broken contacts)

- power loss to the vertical output IC - check for any burned resistors or other components around that IC, assuming you know which one it is - see which ICs are connected to the wires going to the deflection yokes (coils) on the picture tube neck and check them well.

You need to resolder any bad contacts, clean any dirty pins on the connectors and replace any burnt out components (assuming you can still determine the type or value of the component).

Since you mentioned the problem occurs once in a while, this means that the IC probably fails when it warms up, which can often happen if there are loose connections or bad solder contacts.

Anyway, it could turn out to be a faulty IC, i just suggested a few other things that can be fixed quite easily, and possibly without the need to replace any of the components.

Flashing red or green over picture when only warmed up

That sounds like a problem in the deflection circuits which is the large board on the right side of the TV. You have to be careful with that model not to remove the back with out unplugging the power cord because if the back is removed while the power cord is plugged in you will damage the digital circuits of the TV. The site I work for has any parts for that model JVC which are used but the work good, Had a cracked picture tube so all other parts are in excellent working order. They would most likely make you a good deal on the deflection board. Heres their link leave them an email stating your model and what you need.
