Whirlpool Quiet Partner1dishwasher (model DU1055XTSQ2) that is not filling all the way--water supply checked and working correctly. When I check water level during the wash, the heater coil is still above the water line. Also, the water is not getting hot, the heater coil looks very mottled.

Ifixall is correct. I also learned several things with the apartment buildings I maintain.
1. the screen or pump trap must also be cleaned regularly to make sure there is no debris, food etc stuck in there.
2. The spray arms must be free of debris or obstructions.
3. Jet dry solution must be filled or has some solution in it.
4. Water must be hot
5. Scraping dishes and prewash them before putting them into dishwasher.
6 install water softner sometimes helps. (I don't know how true this is, since I am unable to do this in our buildings)
7 drain line must be picked up, or secured to prevent backwash.
8. MAKE sure that the lower rack is not obstructing the sprayer arms. Sometimes overloading dishwashers will cause dishes not being cleaned properly.
9. if all else fails, a service technician can come out to determine if the dishwasher is operating properly.

More likely: the solenoid which directs the water to either the drain or the spray arm is clogged/jammed. Located underneath near the drain line.

Take the back of the door off and remove the panel where all the wires lead to. If you look at the handle that holds the door shut there are 4 wires on a connector there on its switch. There should be a brown one. Follow that wire back and about 12 inches later there is a little switch it connects to. That switch is your problem. Remove both wires connecting to it, splice the 2 wires together and your dishwasher should work fine until you get the actual replacement part. If not you can just leave the wires spliced and it will still work fine. Hope this helps.

I disassembled the bottom spray arm assembly to find a piece of chicken bone wedged against the motor gear. There was also lots of food debris lodged in every crevasse One main hole in the spay arm had paper lodged in it. So it was beneficial to do the extensive cleaning.
The dishwasher fired right up after I put all pieces back together.
