Turned off the TV (sony kv-36fs17) last night but this morning will not turn on, nothing, no red light seems there is no power. Checked the wall socket and other items work so it's definitely the TV. Found a service center but to bring it in ($75 to look, additional $75/hr) will be very difficult especially at 220lbs. But it will cost $225 for someone to come out and an extra $90/hr. TV is only 4 years old. Thanks for any suggestions.
Unless you know Solid State Electronics, there is nothing you can do. At best, You could unplug the TV, remove the back cover, slide out the Circuit board, and check the fuses. They will be at the front of the Circuit board, left hand side. But in all likelihood, it is not just the fuses, the Power Regulator STR would also be short circuited (happens often in SONY TVs) and so it is best that a professional technician have a look.

sir i have an sony kv-hg21m80 which is dead ... my father is a tv technician but he cant diagnose the prob can you help me in this pls according to him the fuse is good, he also changed the str but no use.
Check out the H.Out Transistor and L.O.T.
But first confirm is SMPSis working. Isolate the SMPS, and use a 100W Bulb as load and check if 110V is being generated or not? And also secondary supplies - 12V and 18V? If 110V is Ok, then in all likelihood H Out Transistor is Short Ckt. Replace.
