I have the above 3 y/o fridge. Lately it seems to be limping along. The freezer doesn't seem to get cold enough to make ice and i've noticed things starting to thaw slowly. I put a dish of water in it last night and this morning there was a thin layer of ice on top but it should have been frozen solid. The refridge side also seems to be a bit warm for the temp setting it is on. I hear the fan (or compressor-or whatever) so its not completely dead.
I'm wondering if before i call for service if there isn't something obvious i could look at. I don't know crap about this kind of thing.
Any help would be appreciated...

Re: GE Profile Energy Star Refridge...
Brookid, first you want to start with the basics; door seals are good, light turning off with door closed, dispensor duct door closing all the way, condensor coils cleaned, evaporator fan and condensor fan are running. If you are satisfied that there are no problems here then you want to see if you have a heavy frost build-up on the back of the freezer panel. If you do, you have a defrost issue that usually involves the defrost heaters, main board or freezer thermistor. Tests will have to be made on the main board to determine these. If you don't have a frost build up, you need to check the airflow vents from the freezer to the refer compartment. I will attach a photo of a refrigerator with a defrost problem. Fridge gets cold air from freezer to cool it. Your freezer is fine but not enough cold air is getting into fridge compartment. U have some dampers or louvers that direct air flow to fridge and if they are not set properly cooling will not be adequate. Check those out.
try turning of the frige and let it be of for 1day then put back on and see if will works usally does,if not next usally is the compressor does give enough cold.motherboards dont go bad usally very rare, check all the above before you buy motherboard.please leave comment, vote, note.thankyou
After viewing the pictures of this part on this web-site - I took this part out of my refridge to see if the door was stuck closed or stuck open ( closed = fridge too warm and stuck open is too cold - my problem). The door within this part was broken off the hinge. I took this part apart - styrofoam and tape - and glued the door back together and in place with 2 part epoxy. I reassembled and everything seems OK now.
If this begins to happen again - I will probably just order a new part.
I think it is outrageous that a $700 fridge's performance is regulated by a cheap 50 cent piece of plastic. Spend another dime and make this piece glavanized aluminum? or other material that does not dry rot and holds up in cold dry environments.
