I cannot OPEN my Internet Explorer from my Desk top anymore, used to, now I have to go thru the START MENU and even then it has become so painfully slow, can you help?

I don't know what OS you are using but you can put a new short cut on your desktop by going to the start menu right click Internet Explorer and select "Open file location" This should open a folder that has A short cut in it. Just right click that and select "Copy" then close that window and right click on your desktop and select "Paste". Then your done and should make thing faster for you again.

try going to the list at the front of the desk top and click on computer
find the pnp for the usb stick ( removable hard ware) , right click to open and open it from there
The problem may be that there is no pathway for the shortcut icons and that is what is giving you grief

My Advent 4211 netbook connects wirelessly to the Internet through my Desktop and a Belkin router. How do I allow the netbook to see the files in the desktop?

if you ran your network wizard to get the internet access shared then you should be able to share your files too.
and folders the same way ,

go to my network device,
veiw network computers,
if you can see the computers desk top then
go to Shared folders and try to see if your folders have been shared open something.

If you can see the desktop and not open the shared folders then run the network wizard again, shutdown and restart,to save your settings,
to share files between both machines you will need to drag the file into my shared folders or rightclick on the file your sharing and click on sharing, follow the prompts to share and that should fix your problem.

My emachine T3624 i bought used, and i cant get norton off of it,

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Norton has a habit of being so good that it interferes with some normal activities. Should you wish to uninstall a Norton product and if at all possible, download and run the Norton Removal Tool. Soon as the Norton Product is un-installed, remove the remaining Symantec folders in Common Shared folders. Thereafter, pls follow below procedures:
  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer.
  2. Delete the program installation folders for all Symantec program that were installed.
  3. If you accepted the defaults, the installation folders will be in C:Program Files and will have the name of the program that you installed.
Below listed are the default program folder names and locations listed by program:
  • C:Program FilesNorton Internet Security
  • C:Program FilesNorton SystemWorks
It would help to configure Windows to show all files.
  • Click on "Windows Key" and select Control Panel
  • Double click on Folder options.
  • Click on View Tab
  • Un-check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
  • Under the "Hidden files" folder, click "Show hidden files and folders."
  • Click on Apply
  • Click on OK.
Having performed the above, search for and delete all Symantec folders.
  1. Click on "Windows Key" and select Computer.
  2. Double click on C Drive
  3. Go to the following locations and delete the following folders.
  • c:Program FilesNorton Internet Security
  • c:Program FilesCommon FilesSymantec Shared
  • C:ProgramDataSymantec
and delete all the 3 folders.

Finish by cleaning up the Registry:

CAUTION: you must back up the registry before you make any changes to it. Incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify only the keys that are specified.
  • Click Start and then Run.
  • Type REGEDIT into the Run dialog box when it comes up and then click OK.
  • The Registry Editor will open.
  • Navigate to and select the following key:

If your running xp you probably have a folder with unused icons if not you can always make new short cuts. Just go to programs and the program you want to add short cut to you right click on then go to send to and click add desktop short cut.

Mac mini desk top can not click

You can access your desktop as though it were any other folder and thus delete its contents however you'd care to.

In Finder, go to the File Menu > New Finder Window. It should automatically open your user folder and show Application, Desktop, Documents, etc. From there, simply open the Desktop folder and delete the files.
If any other window is opened, click on Mac HD > Users > [your user name here] > Desktop and do the same.
