The tub or barrel is constantly in motion - like a medium rate spin. The agitator works fine, but with the constant spin of the barrel during the wash cycle, clothes are being twisted and tangled , (actually ripped & torn) under the agitator, (around i'ts base). It works fine during the spin cycle, when it's supposed to constantly turn, and does so with an appropriate increase in the speed of the spin. We removed the agitator to check on it, (it's fine) but we did find two holes on opposite sides of the staff, and couldn't figure out if something there had been lost or broken. All in all, it works fine providing you manually hold the barrel in one place during the wash (agitating),and rinse cycles. Thanks

It's the transmission that's bad. The motor turns one direction to spin and the opposite direction to agitate. The transmission converts the constant belt speed from the motor into the back and forth motion. In the other direction, the transmission stops and the whole system spins.
(I don't suspect you have it set to "delicates")
Sounds to me like the pump is not operating up to par. Open the machine and check all the drain lines form the tub to the pump, from the pump to the waste pipe and also, when you check the tub to pump line, feel up into the tub to make sure you don't have a article of clothing stuck in there. Check the inside of the pump too. Here is a link to a video to show you how to access the pump and lines.
If the agitator works but not the spin cycle, you have a locked up water pump. This keeps the motor from spinning in the other direction so the gears would lock up to spin the whole tub, and work the pump at the same time. turn the washer on its side, and see if there is a small sock or other smal item that have made its way to the pump causing it to get stuck. The pump is easy to take out it is fastened by two clips.
if your sure it will agitate?[because the pump is on the other side of the motor and will drain, but if coupler broken ,wont agitate or spin although it makes noise like its working.so if will truely agitate drive coupler fine and its going to be the clutch or that area unless somthing[clothing] is between the two tubs creating anough resistance to stop the tub from taking off.clutch pads will just slip on drive plate.hope that helps>God bless ,tom
sounds as if hte tub block has gone bad. its the locking block that ties the inner tub t the transmission shaft, after it strips out nothing stops free rotation of inner basket.
Open machine's rear panel and remove belt.
Check if motor spins (when it should, as per cycle stage).
If motor is spining - Move tub manually and check for smooth spin In case it doesn't spin smoothly - maybe that a sock or other piece of clothing get between the clothes tub and the outer tub and prevent tub's spining. If this is the situation, you should remove it.
In case motor doesn't spin- Check with multi-meter if it get power.
If it get power - The problem is with the motor.
Good luck !!
