Whirlpool super capacity plus squeeeeels!!! Help!!

My washer is about 10 years old. During the aggitation cycle just before the spin, it started squeeling pretty loud. The sound was not present during spin cycle, but squeeked once or twice quickly before stopping. How do I get in the guts of the washer? does the top come up? Or do I remove the cover from the back? Any help would be much appreciated. ps. I kicked it twice, no response.

Have a Whirlpool Super Capacity washer in which the drum will tilt during the wash cycle and spill water. If held to center, there is no leak, and the cycle completes without difficulty.

Could you tell me what the life expectancy for this washer might be and does it have a good track record. (Mom gave me one) Whirlpool Super Capacity Plus 7-Cycle 2-speed. 3.2 cu. ft
