Question about Sony KP-48S75 48" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Sony KP-46v25 rear projection: picture width contracted 4-5 inches on left and right.

Picture OK towards center 70% of screen. For the first several days, turning the set on an off several times would eventually correct the problem. Now the problem is apparently permanent and seems to be getting worse (dark bands on left and right are widening). I have a jpeg that if anyone is interested. Also, I have schematics for this set.

I will reassemble tv, measure b+ and let you know. In the mean time schematic can be found here:

Sorry for the delay, had to take care of some other issues. The link to the schematic is posted in previous comment. I am not sure which supply is B+ however:
    I measured nominal "135V" pin 1 of connector CN881 on E board as 130V(actual),
and nominal "200V" pin 7 of connector CN802 on E board as 189V(actual).

Not sure whether these differences from nominal are significant.

    Thanks

The plot thickens. Now the picture has degraded such that it has vertically collapse to about half the vertical height and flickers between top half or bottom half or nothing at all. Is this an additional clue as to what is wrong?

    Thanks,
    Jim

Have you measured the b+ yet? I would like to see the schematic. It could be the b+ section or the horizontal drive circuit.

On My sony kp 53s75 tv the picture does not fill the whole screen on the HD channels

it is most likely normal--first generation HD sets were 4X3 which means picture is either small left and right or top and bottom; sets which have 16X9 offer full screen HD

Are the convergence controls also out of adjustment? Please respond to this same post and I will help you. If you could post a picture of what the screen looks like that would even be better.

You need to have the convergence IC's replaced. A repair like this should run you about 300 bucks or so. In most places.

DLP TV: Left half normal, vertical 6" band center is gray, right half almost black. What's wrong?

No. The optical engine is OK. You need an adjustment in the light tunel. Call a tech to do it.
