Hey guys, i'm sorry but i have some bad news :(
This black screen of death which you have all been experienceing has been a problem of many different phones and all of them have the same cause. It is a manufacturer defect in the phone which pretty much has screwed up the software inside. Sometimes it may take a while for this problem to be come apparent (such as in my case it took nearly a month). I have done hours of research, and there was only one solution. The phone needs to be replaced.
Sprint has told me that no customer will be charged for replacing the phone (insurance or not) because it is a manufacturer / software problem. the only difficulty is that without phone insurance, it may take a few weeks to get your new phone sent to you from Sprint. With insurance, you can just walk into a Service center and get ur phone replaced on the spot.
One major pain with this problem is that all phone numbers and data (except on the mini sd card) is erased or unreachable.
Sorry about the bad news, but i hope this helps everybody getting this same problem no matter what the phone.

Guys i fixed mine by puting it in my outlet charger first just to be safe take out the memory card and battery n put it back in n then start charging from the outlet
My samsung rant is red.i've had it since Christmas of '08.I haven't had ANY problems with it at all, except sometimes when i charge it it doesn't charge, and the light turns orange.But all you have to do is turn your phone off, if it was on, and take the battery out and put it back in.
Phone went dead and when I plug into charger it says..."Abnormal State Charing is Disabled". The phone will not charge.
I"m not trying to solve this problem. I just wanted to leave a comment. My husband and I both have Samsung Rants. We've had them since November 2008. Back in January we had to replace my husbands phone with b/c he was having the FLASHING BACKLIGHT OF DEATH! I just got off of the phone with him and he is saying that his screen is beginning to turn white... again. This is going to be his third phone in 7 months! I'm really ********** about this b/c Sprint continues to sell this phone without any warnings! Don't get me wrong, I love the Rant, just not the problem that comes along with it. Oh and I wanted to note that my husband has the BLACK rant and I have the RED one. I haven't had any problems with mine other than not being able to redial unsaved numbers ( which was fixed by resetting the data in my phone ). Meanwhile my husband seems to be getting all of the problems. What color is your rant, and are you having problems?

Friend, if the unit is under warranty you replace it but if not you need to buy a new LCD and installed it there. it is very easy dont worry just folow the instructions attached on the new LCD screen. good luck

I have the samsung rant for one week as well and it will not turn on. The screen stays on the loading page.

Mine is doing the same thing! I called Sprint asking why my internet won't work and the lady told me to take my battery out. After that, my phone won't load up! I turn it on, it does it's little animation thing, then it stays on the Sprint logo loading screen. Then eventually it turns into a black screen. WOT DUH FOK!?!?!

except i didn't touch mine, i had it on the charger and when i woke up, the screen was black and it wouldn't do anything.

I have the same problem! it was laying on the floor right when I turned lights off and was going to go to bed I saw bright lightning and the phone went dead. Now it tells me low battery and after few seconds of seeing Sprint logo it goes dead. :( Any solutions?

My husband has had a samsung rant for two days and he had it in his pocket with his keys. The next day the screen looks all weird and the manager from the store he bought it from said the keys must have done it. So the store won't replace the phone and we just paid almost 200 bucks for the stupid thing. The manager told us to call Sprint and the lady on the phone from Sprint told us it was the store it was purchased froms responsibility. Go Figure! No one will help us and the phone will ring but thats about it. The manager did offer to sell me another one for 159 plus 59.99 for some other insurance plan. This is the worst deal I have ever had with a cell phone. Cingular or Verizon I think are the best carriers. I don't know anyone with Sprint anyways! Ugh!.
OMG i only had mine for 6 days.Just this morning,i was texting,and it suddenly went off.I tried charging it,and when it said it was good to go,i tried and it didn't work.I plugged it back in and it said it needed charging.I took the battery out,everything.I didn't go over my time,i have unlimited everything!Im so mad!Were goin to sprint tonight and when i get there,im gonna freak at them!
Phone powers up then right after the animation it flashes from dark black to lit black.. Just rediculous
i have somethin like that, but i was charging it not for long, over night though. but anyways. when i got it in the morning it didnt want to respond. like i tried turning it on and off but nothing
I charged my cellphone from the computer over night and when i woke up the screen kept flashing the samsung logo. back and forth like it wont even charge. i took out the battery and i took out the charger and switched computer. my outlet charger is at my fathers house so i cant see if the problem can be fixed that way. I want a sidekick anyway but my parents refuse to switch.
I am using this phone as a temporary replacement to one I broke. I had this problem this morning when I woke up. I've been messing with it for awhile, and tried a different charger at work...no luck. THEN I tried my co-workers motorola charger and it barely fit but all of a sudden my phone started charging and it's working now. I don't know why it works but if it helps anyone else, I wanted to share.
