JVC AV-27920 Empty Black Caption Box That won't Go Away
Recently I bought a used JVC AV-27920 to use with my Playstation 2 for games and DVDs, it works great for games but for some reason whenever I try to play a DVD, a black box, I assume for captions, appears on the lower half of the screen and only disappears when I press the menu button. The previous owner lost the remote so all I have are the buttons directly on the TV, and when I go to captions there seems to be no option for 'off', only CC1, 2, 3 and 4, plus Text T1, 2, 3, 4. I've tried every combination of these, and still that stupid black box is there x.x I have used my ps2 on other tvs for dvds plenty of times and never had this problem before. Is there anything I can do??

I imagine when you are goin tru the captions options each one is being highlighted ,when you get to the last one press the arrow down button and FINISH should appear and it should be highlighted the press the arrow to the right or to the left to save, the press menu to exit.Check this http://books.jvcservice.com/download/909020829/19165.pdf....pages 13 and 19

Ok to fix this without your remote hit the menu button till you get to the closed captioning option and hit channel + to go into it then make the caption cc3 and text t3 this will make your box go away cc3 and t3 are for English and cc1 and 2 are for Spanish and your tv freaks out and you get a black box
Sounds like your Closed Caption has gotten turned on. Try this solution...
1) Press the MENU button 2) Use the CHANNEL UP/DOWN to scroll to CLOSED CAPTION 3) Use the VOLUME UP/DOWN to until MODE is OFF 4) Use the CHANNEL UP/DOWN to scroll to FINISH 5) Use the VOLUME UP to save and exit.
go into your menu and find closed caption, someone has accidently set the closed caption mode to text, when the on screen display of channel or volume goes away the box appears. turn off the closed caption feature or switch it to something other than "text" mode, and your box will go away.
The black box is called a text box and it is a selection in the
closed caption feature or CC......go thru each menu page until
you find CC....cycle thru choices until you get to off or try each selection until Text box and CC are off.................T.
